Il Marrucheto is a wonderful seafood restaurant outside Montalcino and probably has the best seafood I have eaten in Tuscany, certainly at the lowest prices. On a recent visit we shared a mixed seafood salad as a starter, then we had spaghetti con vongole (clams)...and spaghetti con frutti di mare (mixed seafood). We all shared a wonderfully fresh perfectly cooked bass, baked in the oven. They had magnificent desserts but we passed! Excellent house white as you would expect in a famous wine-producing area and coffee.
Apart from seafood, they also do pizzas and I am sure some non-fish dishes.
They have tables and chairs outside under an awning and it must be glorious to eat there on a warm day.
The price is well below anything we have paid for a similar meal in Tuscany and was extraordinary good value.
Sant'Angelo Scalo is easy to find - follow the signs for Grosseto from Montalcino, and pass through wonderful wine country, including the Banfi Vineyard which is just around the corner from the restaurant.
The restaurant is full of local people - always a good sign.
The owners who serve at table are a charming young couple. They get their fish from Grosseto which is only 30 miles away.
This is a wonderful alternative to eating in Montalcino itself, and the beautiful drive and the food justifies going a little out into the country.More
