Quintessential English pub....ticks all the boxes. Open fires, beams, cosy nooks, a menu to suit all tastes and really deliveras on food quality. Cheery imtelligent staff. Gardens, lovely views, plenty of parking, yet off the beaten track. Unmissable.

Lovely old pub with stunning views and fantastic food. Can be a bit crowded in Summer and quite noisy from the drinkers rather than the diners but overall a great place.

The Duke is in a superb location, with great views north , the restaurant is extremely friendly and great staff. Lunch or dinner in several years dinning at the Duke with family and friends we have only ever had very good food.

Not the first time but without question the best time!! The food was fantastic, I admit to being a tough one to please and have criticised eating off boards here before, I don't mean floorboards by the way but those daft slates and wooden boards food is often served on these days, what's up with plates!! Anyway enough silly picking... More

I only write foody reviews where I think somewhat less of a place than the consensus on TA. Wife and I visited here for the second time for lunch. The first was OK, and whilst a bit reluctant to go again I thought we'd try once more. But I will not go for a third. Let me say first that... More

Took my girlfriend here for her birthday off the back of a recommendation. The setting and the pub itself is quite lovely, the waiting staff were professional and pleasant. The food was really excellent and we were wowed with each course. We chose from the main dinner menu not the seasonal Christmas menu. Thoroughly recommend, would go again no questions... More

Think of an English pub; open log fires (even in the outdoor covered area), great beer, friendly atmosphere and you could be imagining The Duke of Cumberland. We popped in here for a drink the week before Christmas and we will be back.

I first heard of this place from reading a column in the Times describing the best country pubs in the country and this was rated as Giles Coren's writers choice. Since it wasn't too far from us I decided to book it. Since I had a day off two weeks prior to me wanting to go I thought it would... More

After looking at other similar venues in the area we chose The Duke of Cumberland for its lovely picturesque setting and the beautiful traditional pub atmosphere. During the planning for the birthday celebration (~90 guests) for my better half the staff provided professional helpful support and advise throughout, making the organisation of the event a breeze. The food was delivered... More

A very busy Sunday lunchtime, lots of drinkers outside enjoying a beautiful sunny, crispy cold winters day. Inside it was packed, but not in a bad way. We had booked a table for four in the front bar area which hasn't changed in decades. Ordered two pints of Langham's Best Bitter and two glasses of Upperton sparkling wine, so good... More
