A traditional pub serving a wide variety of real ales and lagers. Good atmosphere. Quirky decor. Particularly for xmas and Halloween. Always good service and a good atmosphere.

Been many times to the shovel now. Always a good pint and very friendly staff. Nice real ales and a good selection. The food isn't bad normally have a cob. Nice beer garden in the summer and nice open fire in the winter.

I Visited here the other day with some friends. We just came for drinks. It was a Thursday night and it was fairly busy. There was a lovely warm fire on and the bar staff were friendly and welcoming. There was a nice atmosphere in here. I can't comment on the food as I didn't have any but enjoyed the... More

Booked in advance for Sunday lunch and was not disappointed. Choice of beef, pork and Turkey or a combination of all three, all for the incredible price of £5_50. Plenty of fresh vegetables, not frozen, and a jug of home made gravy to die for. Accompanied by a pint of Salopian Lemon Dream, one of eight quality real ales available,... More

10/10 for the beer with good bar meals sat next to a nice fire. However, the owner has a cat wandering round the bar, so if you are not an animal lover then maybe it isn't for you. However, this did not distract from a good evening me and my friends had in this pub.

Difficult to criticise the owners efforts with food and drink of good quality . But when the pub cat craps on the window ledge by your head whilst your eating is shocking . Being a pet lover is all well and good but the cat/s climbing over where I'm about to eat ......No sorry not for me !!

I have to say disliking cats is one thing but to make a statement that sooty ( pub cat) crapped on the window sill behind you is complete lies. The cat has never crapped anywhere in the pub also our regular customers and staff would have noticed this and the smell would have been everywhere!!! The cat is very friendly... More

We've been visiting the Shovel regularly for a year or so now, it's a fantastic place to grab a few drinks on a Friday night! A really good selection of ales, friendly staff and outstanding Sunday lunch makes for a brilliant pub.
