We were pleased to find Ciderhuset while walking around Balestrand and on recommendation from the Balestrand Hotel owners. It's a beautiful location among the orchards with great views of the lake and valleys. The cider tasting was really fun to do at the end of...More

We toiled up the hill on a hot afternoon, but was it worth it! Instead of getting the five different "tastes" of cider, the three of us each ordered a different one and shared around. The cool porch overlooking the fjord was the perfect place...More

The recommendation for a 5 type of cider is really worth a try. The walk is quite far but it's a nice pleasant walk. The signs are clear enough.

This was recommended by some fellows from New Orleans, we didn't even know about it. It was a really nice walk through town, but you have to follow the signs. Unfortunately, it was Sunday and we could not buy a bottle of their delicious plum...More

In a day at Balestarnd, which was too less, we had the most scumptutious lunch ever at Ciderhuset. Lovely vegetarian meal served with warmth and smiles. Tasting of home made ciders, some amazing Norwegian beers. Waiting to go back.

We discovered Ciderhuset by chance; it is a little outside of the centre of Balestrand and we were afraid to get lost. It is a beautiful location in the middle of lush orchards. The restaurant serves good food. The cider tasting is fun. We bought...More

The Ciderhuset is a 'must do' when in Balestrand. It's tucked away but a real gem when you get there. The food is fantastic and the ciders to die for. We had just come off the trek on the hills above Balestrand and really felt...More

We visited late in the afternoon for a tour and a cider tasting. We had a great experience. Our host was the grandson of the founder and, in the span of about 25 minutes, shared some of the history of the family business and the...More

Balestrand is a wonderful town to break up the 'Nutshell' tour of the Sognefjord, and if you are going to spend the night, this is the best possible place for dinner. A short walk from the hotels, a terrific view of the fjord from the...More

The Cider House is located in Balestrand in an organic fruit orchard with more than 100 fruit varieties. We are situated a short 15 min walk along the fjord from Kviknes Hotel. Our restaurant is in a glass house with a panoramic view of the Sognefjord. The summer restaurant is in 2017 open from June 22nd – August 18th. Sunday – Friday at 12-18 o'clock. Thursday from 12-21 o'clock. Closed Saturday due to private events such as weddings. From May 2017 the Cider House is an Economusee – artisans at work, a sustainable craft tourism initiative where the artisans are chosen based on their commitment for quality and the genuine. LEARN & TASTE In our cider cellar we use traditional methods to make "champagne-cider" and distil apple brandy. Join one of our family members telling your party all about how we make fruit and berries into juice, cider and brandy. The program lasts for approx. 30 min and includes samples of cider or juice. We have interpretations from Sunday to Friday at 12.30 and 15.30. See our activities page on tripadvisor or our webpage to book a tour. VISIT OUR SHOP The Cider House has its own shop with approx. 20 types of Balholm-ciders, fruit juices and food souvenirs from the garden. In 2017 the shop is open from May 22nd from 12-18, Sunday to Friday (no sale of alcohol on Sundays). EAT & DRINK The restaurant offers a menu with local produce and is inspired by the Mediterranean cuisine. Here you can try our beverages, together with warm and cold dishes (incl. vegetarian and vegan dishes) and desserts. For groups. On request we offer heritage walks, activities and courses.
