Having visited this restaurant a number of times over the years, was very surprised and disappointed in the service and food. On previous visits we felt all was excellent. Something must have changed as this time is was very poor. We got to the restaurant and waited for it to open at 5 pm. As the first party to enter... More

This is a great Mexician restaurant that is hidden in the middle of a block right on busy S Beretania St. heading to downtown Honolulu. It is not that noticeable as signs are not that obvious but many tourist guides recommended them highly and to our surprise, it definitely lived up to its review! The waiters were very courteous, friendly... More

I was dying for a good Mexican meal after a day of hiking. I am happy that I stumbled onto Los Chaparros. The entire wait staff was welcoming, attentive, friendly, and respectful. My dinner was fresh and delicious! The guys on staff that night were clearly having fun, which made it a joy to be there. But they were also... More

Siri guided us here and we had our doubts with this small restaurant in a commercial area. But the reviews were great. Being from AZ we didn't expect to find good Mexican food. All of our doubts were overcome as we were greeted by the most gracious host who kept us posted on the wait. Our waiter gave us a... More

I eat here often. The menu is diverse and offers entrees not often found elsewhere. The staff and service have improved. The parking lot is tiny. No valet option. Parking along the side streets can be hit or miss. But, go early to find parking. Also, the restaurant is closed on Mondays and closes daily between lunch and dinner. I... More

Wow, that's what I call a great meal. Everything on the plate was top notch. Best beans ever, best rice ever, best salsa roja ever, equal best enchilada and quesadilla ever and genuine, warm hospitality. $40 total for two including drinks for one of the best meals I've ever had ...

So, as many of you know, I'm brown, and I am telling you, the Super Chaparros with carnitas and Verde sauce is easily the best burrito I have ever tasted. Plus, it's the size of a pillow. Well done. Better than my mother, better than my Tia. Everybody! Very authentic Mexican food here. I love it. -Javi T

The best Mexican food in Honolulu. Food might take a while but that's because everything is made to order and well worth the wait. Stay for the banana flautas and churros at desert.

This place is a short (15-20min) walk away from the central tourist area. With this, it is cheaper but the quality and the size of the servings are extraordinary. Everything is fresh / homemade and the flavours shine through. I highly recommend the super burrito! This is the kind of place I would visit every time I come to Honolulu.

While you are perusing the comprehensive menu you are served complementary chips & salsa. Our starters & mains were delicious but unfortunately were served at the same time!! Why do they do that!! Did not detract from the food. Come here hungry as they serve massive portions. Reasonably priced. No draught beer, just bottled. Highly recommended.

Description
Los Chaparros has an extensive menu of Mexican entrees as well as other popular appetizers, salads, soups, and tortas. Breakfast favorites such as Huevos con Chorizo are also available all day long. Desserts include flan, bread pudding, churros and banana flautas. Housemade horchata and the fire roasted salsa with chips are always in high demand. The bar offering includes Mexican beer, wine, sangria, tequila and margaritas. Daily drink specials and weekday lunch specials are also available.

Established in 2005. Los Chaparros, means "The Shorties" and refers to both co-owners, Mario (5' 4") & Lisa (4' 9") being short in stature. It is a very common practice in Mexico to give someone a nickname based on their physical characteristics as a sign of affection toward them. "The Shorties" embraced their nickname, and "Los Chaparros" was born.

Mario is native to Mexico City and Lisa was born and raised in California. They were inspired to share their love of cooking (and eating) Mexican food and decided to open this restaurant. Los Chaparros has a wide array of items for you to choose from, border favorites to traditional - something for everyone. Buen provecho!
