Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great place for some true Hawaiian food. Make sure if you want the best to get the pipikaula and squid lū'au and then while you're at it, get some poke. You can not go wrong with true Hawaiian home cooking comfort food.

Simple and good authentic Hawaiian food. Lots of variety. There are even quite a few options without fish. Very clean and fast. The only problem is limited parking.

Good Hawaiian food without the tourist feel. Nice servers. The lau lau and chicken long rice were good. We liked that the Kalua pig was not as salty as other places. Poi wasn’t as tangy and that’s a good sign for us. Overall solid place...in a cute strip mall and we would come back again.More

I always like to go where the locals eat. This trip to Hawaii I was fortunate enough to have a friend take to this fabulous place for lunch & OMG was it ONO! It's not far from Waikiki & certainly worth the trip! My wife...had the sampler platter & I had the kailua pig & cabbage. Service is great as you would expect in Hawaii. It's a busy place, but you won't be disappointed.More

We were thrilled to experience classic Hawaiian cuisine slightly away from the tourist bustle of Waikiki. The Highway Inn was highly recommended by a friend who frequently visits Honolulu and yet it exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed each item in the chicken laulau and squid...lu’au combos - the chicken cooked in taro leaves was meltingly tender and delicious with traditional poi. Both meals were tasty and satisfying, the staff warm and hospitable, and along with a few well selected and priced wines we had a memorable evening.More

Our friends recommended this place for excellent lau lau. That is something you cannot get in the heart of Waikiki touristy area, so we gave it a "go" and visited the SALT District at the same time. Great combination!! Had lunch here. Got the chicken...lau lau combination plate: selected available sides like white rice and potato-mac salad, sweet potato, and haupia. Also got a pork lau lau a la carte. We liked the pork, it was so delicious. The combination plate was great so we could try a bunch of sides. Wait staff was very friendly. It was an A+ experience.More

I started going to the Waipahu shop in 1972 when only had 6 tables on Depot St and it has always been Ono Hawaiian food.l both shops. I still prefer Waipahu but Kakaako has it's own flair. Lomi Ahi, Naau, Butterfish w/ stew gravy, and...poi, the best. A little expensive but that is the cost of paradise especially Hawaiian KaukauMore

So awesome! Try the Tasting Plate for dinner. The waitress was wonderful and explained some of the items and how they’re made/eaten. Great variety of Hawaiian food. I loved this place.

First time that we dined in here. Nice place with beautiful wood furniture and spacious windows. Parking is often a problem in this area. Parking lot is too small for all of the different restaurants and stores. Parking on the side streets lose their limitations...at 6pm. Service is great. Hawaiian and local food is innovative and well executed. We had the chicken laulau combo. The laulau was big and full of 2 chicken thighs. We took home half. Poi was good, as was the purple sweet potato and the mac salad. This became short-listed for Hawaiian food. Nice, clean, newer place.More

We enjoyed a variety of Hawaiian dishes. Everyone in our party tried something different. The Lau Lau and the Kalua Pork were the biggest hit. The portions were good and the prices reasonable.

This place was recommended by our shuttle driver so we had our first dinner here and it turned out to be our best on the island. Hubby had the plantation plate and the sword fish was the best fish he’s ever tasted! The sweet potato...appetizer nachos with yummy smoked pork was unlike anything we’d ever tasted. We took the leftovers home to our hotel fridge and ate them cold the next morning for breakfast and they were still incredible! The staff was friendly and personable, even inviting us back for Sunday breakfast. Alas, our schedule wouldn’t allow for it, but we are already thinking about them for our next visit.More

Came here with the family to try the hawaiian food, and was not disappointed. I had the laulau combo with rice Lomita lomi salmon, sweet potato, and Haupia. Not much parking, but we waited. Service was good, completely satisfied with the food and atmosphere.

We were searching for authentic Hawaiian food & we found it here. Previous reviews perfectly described this delicious restaurant. Most of the diners seemed to be locals and very familiar with menu. Servers were very helpful in advising us on menun items. Casual atmosphere but...5 star food & service! Highly recommend!More

We had a wonderful lunch experience, ordering one Hawaiian tasting combo with an additional chicken Lau Lau. Enough for two, couple of cold beers and wife had a couple of house cocktails with gin base. The staff were so friendly and seemed to actually enjoy...being there. Played some lovely reggae (Jahwaiian) music in background, got names of local artists so we could purchase albums. Food, atmosphere and the whole experience was great. Thank you for making our day after touring the Island our bestest everMore
