Anthony Bourdain was not wrong. And neither were other friends and family who ate here when they visited Honolulu. Food absolutely delicious and the best on our short trip to the islands. Did my research and knew that plates were large and it was just...my husband and I so we ordered appropriately but also had light lunches the days we visited. My husband really enjoyed the food, so much that he said we should go back the next night. We came early at opening (we were still on east coast time) and were pleasantly surprised to see that there is a happy hour discount. Big screens had the NHL playoffs on - yay for us! Staff super friendly and good amount of people eating there even though it was early and mid week. The first night we got the pork chops, the small farmers salad and one side rice with furikake. The second night we got the sizzling kalbi, the poke special of the day, and a side rice with furikake. So much food we left full both nights. Loved the salad, very fresh which offset the richness of the pork chops. Putting spoonfuls of the poke on top of the rice was heaven. We can’t wait to go back.More

Family style! The BBQ beef short ribs were the best bite, followed by the garlic fried chicken. Enjoyed the pork chops, fried rice, yakisoba noodles, and salad. So delicious! Great beverage selection, too.

We have been here before in the original place. It now has a new look! They updated the inside but the food is delicious. Their specialty fried rice is the best. Remember the portions are family size. The pork chops are to die for.. Enjoy.

Great food! IWe like to try food where the locals eat! The restaurant is on a side street! Nothing to look at on the outside, but nice on the inside! People were very friendly!!

Whenever I return to Honolulu, one dinner at least is at the Side Street Inn. Everything is simply wonderful. The portions are huge. Plan to share! If you order the fried rice, you will definitely take home leftovers for the rest of the week. The...pork chops are a signature dish. Try everything! If you are a sports fan, you are doubly fortunate. There are bug tv screens everywhere.More

So delicious and more than we could eat—friendly service and incredible value—Yummy. Served family style but we could have easily just ordered the fried rice as it was a huge serving

Recommended by a local. Very good short ribs and fried rice. This is what I was craving so that’s what I ordered. Very very please with the quality of the food and the service. We got there and were asked if we had reservation, we...didn’t but they seat us right away. They have live music that provides a good atmosphere and plenty os tv’s to watch the game. This is a good spot.More

First they did not take reservations for two. Showed up for walk up list. They said about an hour and was. Ordered the half Chinese chicken salad with dressing on side. Came with small dish of dressing, had to get two more little dishes. Not...enough chicken in salad, skimpy. Ordered the garlic fried chicken, sauce on the side. Again not enough sauce, had to order more. Chicken was good and good portion, a bit more costly as everything was. Menu is not as big as it used to be. Our booth had rips on seat cushions. Place gone down hill. They need to work on it, used to be a go to place.More

They worked us in even though we were unable to make a reservation. The portions were the biggest you can imagine. Honesty, we were two couples and could have ordered one of two plates only and that would have fed four of us. The food...was tasty and the service was good.More

Ate here after searching 'hole in the wall restaurant Honolulu locals' and coming up with Side Street Inn. The reviews are correct ! Really good, reasonably priced food, and a lot of it. We got the 'dinner for four' multi-course meal for $140. SO good....Had lots of food left over for lunch the next day. Place was filled with locals and tourists alike. Was so glad to see places like this still exist in Honolulu ... Highly recommend!More

We ate here twice during our vacation. The first visit we were able to get street parking. Our second visit we had to have valet parking for $7.00. The parking is right below the restaurant, so access is very easy. Reservations are recommended as wait...times can be very long. One of our visits was on a Wednesday night when bottles of wine are 50% off. Service is very good. It is just my husband and myself, so we do not order the lap cheong fried rice as it is just way too much food for 2 people. On our first visit we had lilikoi baby back ribs and French fries and our second visit we had their famous pork chops and French fries. We had the peanut butter crunch for dessert. The serving sizes were all substantial with the exception of the lilikoi back ribs. There were only 5 ribs and because of the bones there was not much meat present. If there had been 6 ribs, it would have been an adequate amount of meat. The pork chops were a large platter consisting of 3 large pork chops with bone. It was very good, but the pork chops were slightly dry. The peanut butter crunch was a wonderful way to end the meal. We would definitely return. They have very good food, good sized servings and reasonable prices.More

Received a challenge from friends that live on Oahu to compare the Hawaiian pork chop from Side Street Inn to the Iowa Pork Chop which we are accustomed to (living in Iowa). Iowa is well known for its Iowa Chop so of course we took...the challenge. The original restaurant is not real easy to find, in a back alley, and parking is difficult, but valet parking is available, and we were staying at the nearby hotel so we walked. We stopped in at 7pm on a Friday evening and the place was full with bar only room which we were more than happy with. There was also live music playing on this Friday evening. The bartender brought menus and took our drink orders while offering water. He was very helpful and friendly and offered to give recommendations and suggestions or answer any questions. He also explained that portions are generous, almost family style, and to expect left overs with only two of us. We each ordered a beer and of course in light of the pork chop challenge ordered the pan fried pork chops. At the bartender’s suggestion we added the roast pork poke and one of the evening specials, tofu veggie stir fry. The stir fry and poke came out first and the plate filled with pork chops quickly followed. The tofu was deep fried and served with Asian vegetables (cabbage, shredded carrots, sprouts and greens) in a soy based sauce and was delicious. My husband is not a fan of tofu and even he enjoyed it. We actually finished off that dish. The poke was crispy roasted pork chunks with grape tomatoes, green onion, sweet red onion in a vinaigrette dressing. It was also delicious, but after finishing off the tofu dish and also having the pork chop platter, we had plenty left over. The pork chops came cut into pieces, seasoned and fried. They reminded us more of the pork tenderloin (without the bun) that we get in Iowa than a pork chop which is often smoked and grilled. They were very good but we both agreed cannot be compared fairly to the iowa chop because of their differences. We had explained the challenge we were given to the bartender and he was very interested in our thoughts afterwards. We showed him photos of the tenderloin sandwich and he was quite intrigued at the thought of possibly putting the pan fried pork chunks on a bun. Definitely the most flavorful and delicious seasoned fried pork chop we have ever had and we had plenty of left overs. The bill came to around $70 for everything which was very reasonable for the portions and quality, along with live music and the excellent service. Definitely a great recommendation from our friends.More

We usually eat at Side Street Inn every time we visit Hawaii, but due to covid, we did takeout and the kalbi (short ribs) was tough, the breading on the fish was mushy, and fish was dry. The green salad was fresh and salad dressing...was good, but we can get a fresh green salad other places. Prices are on the higher side. We asked family members who live in Hawaii and found other places for takeout with same or better quality for much less dollars this trip.More
