Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We went for Happy hour. The Mai Tai's are very good. The ribs were also wonderful as well as the sushi. The wings were lacking flavor. But the butter fish was fantastic. It had been a long time since we have enjoyed the butter fish...(at other locations) This one was just as we remember it from the first time we had it in San Diego's Roy's. The view was also great. A very enjoyable experience.More

It was a delicious delightful experience! Each bite was a tasty explosion on my taste buds! We did the 3 course meal… it did not disappoint! Josh was just the right attentive, friendly and knowledgeable of the menu! Soooo worth the $ for this experience!...Would recommend the hot dessert that needs 30 minutes to make fresh! I had the hot chocolate molten cake and ice cream!More

Great food - whether you get the pre- fix. Or ordering just off the regular menu - it’s all good. The short ribs and the crab cakes and …. …….oooohhhhh the best dessert is the warm pineapple upside down cake. I would go back and...have that just for dinner !!!More

We wanted a special restaurant for our last night in Oahu, and to celebrate the engagement of my niece with her fiancee. So, I knew Roy's would be the place. They did not disappoint! The service is always friendly, professional and attentive. The food is...superb. The specialty cocktails are imaginative and delicious. The only drawback was that our group of 6 were seated at the first table on the right, when you enter the dining room. So, we didn't have the nice view from the tables near the window. The entire family said this was a fantastic way to end a fantastic trip. This original Roy's is one of my top 2 dining experiences, anywhere.More

The food and service was wonderful. The waiter, Brandon was very attentive. There was a card on the table congratulating us on our anniversary. Mojitos are not on the drink menu, but they were amazingly good. Each part of the meal was exceptional. I would...highly recommend that if you are in the Honolulu area you should go to Roy’s Hawaii Kai.More

Service is attentive, food was lovely and mai tai’s strong and impressive. Appetizers were a great start. Two of our party had the prix fixe menu and every course was delicious. Who knew orzo Mac & cheese could be so good! The Hawaii Kai Ocean...trio was melt in your mouth and our waiter made sure to bring the “spicy “ sauce on the side just in case. The Washugyu Prime Ribeye was worth every penny! Perfectly cooked, lovely Demi-glaze and tender crisp vegetables. Roy’s is a gem you don’t want to miss.More

A fantastic dining experience. The presentation was incredible, the food delicious and the service impeccable. We went there to celebrate our son's upcoming college graduate (that was the reason for our trip), and they made it memorable.

Valentine’s Day dinner with family. We have gone to Roy’s for years and have never been disappointed. However, this pre made set dinner was not good. The butternut soup was lukewarm and the baguette that was served with it was hard as a rock. The...hamachi salad was wilted and I think sat for awhile. The grilled salmon was just ok. The blackened ahi had a lot of fat around it. The steak and lobster was good, not excellent , and the dessert looked pretty but horrible! When one pays $100 per meal you expect quality and perfection. Very disappointing!More

I decided to visit the original Roy's, since I have been to many others. It was a long and expensive taxi drive from the cruise ship I was on (over $100). The decor was rather plain. I had a nice quiet booth and a very...attentive server. I had 2 delicious Mai Tai's, chicken egg rolls, edamame, macadamia crusted swordfish (to Die For!!!), and the famous hot chocolate lava cake. Everything was wonderful. Had a far off view of the ocean and a nice koi pond inside.More

We read the reviews and got excited since it was within walking distance of our hotel but was a bit disappointed. Our waiter was not very helpful, he was all about his looks and price tag for his tip but not for helping.. he only...suggested the pricier items and we caught on real quick to his thinking. We didn’t understand the edamame they brought to us. No one explained what they were or how to eat them so I felt like it was a waste of food and that made me sad. The food was good but paying for the look of it. If we were to visit Hawaii again .. I probably wouldn’t go back to this place.More

We made reservations for dinner at Roy’s. When we arrived, the hostess was ready to show us to a table upstairs, but we asked if there was a table available on the patio. She checked and said they had availability and showed us to a...table on the patio. Water was poured and a dish of complimentary endame beans were placed on the table. My husband asked to see the wine list as one was not presented with the menu. We ordered a bottle of wine and chicken spring rolls. Our waiter presented the wine and poured our wine. We asked our waiter about the misoyaki butterfish as this used to be my husband’s favorite dish, but we notice that it is now a wasabi ginger butter and we do not like wasabi. Our waiter said that they could serve the wasabi ginger butter on the side, but it was not a strong wasabi flavor. They could also provide a buerre blanc sauce on the side. We did not order at this time as we were still perusing the menu. As we were sitting at the table, I mentioned to my husband that there must be mosquitos because I had a couple of bites. Mosquitoes just love me, and I am allergic to mosquito bites. We didn’t think this was possible since it was very windy, and we didn’t think that the mosquitoes would be able to fly. My husband did see a few mosquitoes buzzing around our table that was right against the wall, so we asked to move inside. Our appetizer had arrived by this time, but they were able to move us inside. Our waiter communicated with Ken our new waiter who introduced himself to us. After we had finished our appetizer, Ken told us that if we were going to have certain desserts that they took awhile to cook so that they should be ordered before we finished our meal. We told him that our order had not been taken yet. He was very apologetic. My husband had the butterfish and I had the black tiger shrimp with blue crab ravioli. When our food arrived, the server said here is the black tiger shrimp and the half order of butterfish. My husband explained that he ordered a full order of butterfish not the half order. This was rectified. We had the hot chocolate soufflé for dinner. Our must have dessert when at Roy's It was a good evening. The food was excellent, and the service was good.More
