Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This restaurant is location is small shopping center on the second floor. There is parking underneath the building and street parking. Reservations are recommended and you have to call them. No online reservations. We went for dinner. We wanted to experience some traditional izakaya and...yakitori atmosphere versus only sushi. The menu is pretty expensive and if you don’t know Japanese names of the plates and or their equivalent in English we would recommend doing some homework. We have ordered a lot of different small plates. Everything was as expected, and the food tasted fresh and delicious. Besides small plates we ordered one roll, Mauna Loa Roll, the mother of all rolls. It was $45 and it was HUGE. It had EVERYTHING on it and was very tasty. One recommendation, ask the chef to slice it into smaller slices, it would be easier to eat it. Other than that, it was great! The service was standard, and we enjoyed it. We recommend this place and when we’re back in Hawaii we will definitely stop by again.More

We actually went here buy accident, but it was a good choice. The food was presented well, and all the dishes were very good

This was one of our least favorite meals on the island. Nothing was bad but nothing was particularly good either. The much-raved-about salmon skin salad was just okay. Hand rolls were fairly standard. Miso tempura butterfish was one of the tastier dishes, whereas the ika...yaki was greasy and a bit bland. We also got some yakitori that needed more seasoning too. Looking around at how empty it was on a Saturday night, it seemed like this place's glory days have passed.More

Made reservations to ensure our family would not need to wait long and was promptly seated upon arrival. Parking is either on the street (no cost at the meter after 6 pm) or in the basement level garage. Food came out quick. Spicy tuna, unagi,...and various sushi rolls were delicious. Also ordered the salmon ponzu and hamburger steak, both were good. But, had to order rice as a side for $2.50. Noticed on the menu a snake venom liquor (sake) with a preserved snake in the liquor (called "Abunai"). Was not brave to try that, but maybe someone else may be interested.More

Tokkuri Tei is a small Japanese bar (izakaya style) with a huge variety of small plates and sushi at very affordable prices. We discovered this place from a local resident friend and have visited each trip we come to Waikiki. This place is really a...hidden gem! Located upstairs in a small cluster of businesses, above a parking garage thats at the end of the Ala Wai golf course, near Diamond Head. Its not a place found by tourists randomly walking by. The food choices amaze me. Pages of drink selections, small plates, sushi choices and even some dishes we've never seen elsewhere. It gets crowded fast. Make a reservation. If you're looking for outstanding sushi, interesting and tasty dishes, in a place that makes you feel like a local, try it! I didn't give it 5 stars because its not really a cozy or quaint atmosphere, more "no-frills", but its clean and has good service. The food puts a smile on all the patrons faces!More

This place was recommended to us by a local friend for authentic Japanese cuisine. We went there to find it fully booked for the evening, and promptly made a reservation for the next day. Make sure to reserve in advance. The wait staff was very...friendly and took the time to educate us on the menu items. Started with Otoko Yama sake and also tried Habu shu. That was a unique experience. If you don't know what it is, google it. Kids got a kick out of watching the staff pour the drink and then watching me drink it. :) We tried a bunch of different items including yellowtail sashimi, Tako wasabi (octopus), Yaki tori, Ahi Kasu, Yaki Udon and Udo-Roni & Cheese (menu said this was Japanese mac & Cheese). They weren't kidding! It tasted great and all of us, especially the kids, loved it so much that we ordered one more round! So the chef sent us a complimentary plain risotto to try. Loved that too! Overall, a great evening and experience for all of us! Would highly recommend trying this place.More

The menu at this izakaya is overwhelming, so many tempting choices! Fortunately, we were with a friend who considers this her favorite Japanese restaurant on Oahu. Her favorite item is the Nori Tempura ($7.50), listed under the "Age Mono (Deep Fried)" section of the menu....I have to agree, it was delicious. We ordered yaki udon ($17.50) and five items for the four of us. It was all delicious and fulfilling.More

My friends from the island took me here for a birthday dinner and it did not disappoint. We sat at the sushi bar and let the chef choose what we had (we get him know what we couldn't eat). He brought out dish after fish,...each with a bite or two per person. We also ordered a few things from the menu and the best sake I've had outside of Japan. I can't recommend this place enough!More

I have been to many Izakaya here in Hawaii and in Japan. I think Tokkuritei is the Best! That might make it the Best in the World in my opinion. It is not very expensive! The service is great! The girls know their stuff. The...quality of the food shows a pride in the art of food preparation like no other. I keep coming back because of all these things! Also they have a reasonable selection of sake from good to very good-quality & price. Check it out! You won't be disappointed!More

Running 29 years the casual style Japanese restaurant in Honolulu is very significant things. Local people love to go there because the place is real Japanese style restaurant which includes Sushi bar also. If you want to sit at the Sushi counter, I recommend to...you making reservation. Parking is B1. ADA and kids friendly. 10 minutes by car from Waikiki.More

We used to go this restaurant regularly but hadn't been there in awhile. Last night we dined with our family and had a very nice meal. Their broad & varied small plates has always been our main attraction but the sushi is also good. Reservations...for a party greater than four is probably a must for dinner. The restaurant is tidy but a bit shop worn. Our service was first rate and friendly. They use a team approach to serving but they served each order properly (we had about 10 small plates and four sushi orders). The small plates may seem a bit unusual for patrons not accustomed to Japanese small plates but I think they are a delight and worth sampling broadly. Sushi is well made and fresh. The batter for the tempura seemed a bit heavy but the portion was generous. There is parking in the basement for a small charge. There is also street parking but it is usually full.More

We found this spot while visiting the vape shop downstairs. Glad we walked in because the restaurant was a nice little location with a good number of patrons. The food was good - we had a Dragon Roll, a Kimberly Roll, and one more that...was a Scallop Roll. We also enjoyed some plum wine. I liked the service and felt that they did a good job taking care of us.More

Tokkuritei has a great informal vibe and wonderful Japanese food. Their sushi and sashimi are fresh and well-prepared -- not at the level of Sushi Sasabune or Nobu, of course, but much better than other comparably restaurants. Service is fast and friendly. I have never...been disappointed.More
