Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We wanted to go to a local spot and someone recommended Pioneer Saloon. It was ok. It was a little too rustic/dive-like for our taste, and we are not stuffy people. It was small and kind of dirty. Food is what you would expect for...a local carryout type place. We weren't really wowed by anything but I think we were expecting something different.More

On every trip, we try to find and patronize a place like the Pioneer Saloon. It’s fun, casual, rustic, and feel authentic to the local environment. You can come here sweaty and dusty after a hike or just emerged from the ocean; no matter. We...ordered the chicken tonkatsu and steak plates (this one is a must-try!). Order at the window (outside the store) and dine inside by grabbing an available chair.More

This was recommended to us by a few locals!! Definitely worth a visit. The food was delicious, great flavor and fresh. I will say the only downside is that when you get ready to order its a little confusing. I think its because everyone is...getting to a new normal. We order the food outside and then they let you in if you are dining in. It wasn’t a big problem, it was just confusing for newcomers. I highly recommend as I would have returned if we had more time. Friendly service.More

We enjoyed this food so much, we came back the next day! Honolulu has few restaurants compared to Mainland cities. We felt lucky to find the Pioneer Saloon.

Ordered take-out and enjoyed their extensive menu. $11-18 for a large and delicious meal. I would definitely eat there again!

A great little shop with some killer food options. I had the salmon Kama. First time I have ever had this dish. It came with potato salad, mixed grains, salad and the yummiest soy dressing. The salmon was crisp and flavorful. Top it off with...a guava soda and you have a great lunch. The staff are very niceMore

What a super pleasant surprise this restaurant was, with its funky decor, fantastic food and super friendly staff at very reasonable prices. We will definitely go back within a couple days.

Vast improvement on this visit from our last. Service was very good. Food was above average. One disappointment: Even when dining in single use plastic containers were used.

So many decisions. This time I had Curry Fried Chicken and a side order of Curry. Asked for tossed salad instead of the pasta salad. Small venue, not a real saloon as no bar. Parking tight around the area.

The miso butterfish was incredible. My partner had the barbecue short ribs, which also looked amazing. This is a great spot for a Hawaiian plate lunch with a Japanese twist, and the place itself is quirky and cool. It's a small spot, but seats turn...over quickly and you can always get an order to go. We went around lunch time, parked on the street and didn't have a problem getting a seat. Definitely worth stopping by if you're in Honolulu.More

This is a really popular eatery and you may struggle to get a table but take away is available. I had the shrimp which was delicious and served with salad, rice and pasta along with a garlic dip. My sister had the chicken (we went...1/2 and 1/2!) which was tasty, crispy, succulent and generously-sized. You also have a choice of rice - brown, white and seeded.More

Love the choices of food at Pioneer Saloon. Always have salmon! The decor is interesting . Go and check it out. It is within walking distance of Waikiki...about 10 minutes past the zoo. Well worth the walk. Plenty of food served. Order and pay at...the counter and enjoy at a table.More

There were so many menu options to choose from: seafood, meat, pork, vegetarian. I have tried their kalbi, fried baby octopus, lamb, ginger pork, and fried oysters and every one was delicious. You have to wait a while for your order while they cook it,...but then you know it's fresh and not something they had sitting.More
