Located on the ground floor of the Royal Hawaiian hotel overlooking Waikiki, Azure is the flagship restaurant of the complex. It masquerades as Surf Lanai, a more casual breakfast experience, during the morning. As of this writing it was only open in the evening hours during the weekend. I ate here on my first night at the hotel, securing a reservation soon after check-in. The staff was considerate enough to seat me literally right next to Waikiki in full view of the entire beach with Diamond Head in the background. The meal was a four-course event with an amuse bouche (tuna) to start things off. It then progressed in a fairly classic way with an asparagus salad (ricotta, pickled green strawberry) and poached scallops (cucumber, lemon confit) leading into an excellent wagyu strip loin (truffled cream corn, braised leeks). A sublime Russian honey cake rounded out the meal. Shingo Katsura, the chef de cuisine, stopped by midway to make sure everything was going well; service from Roy (a waiter with 26 years experience) was timely and professional. In summary, this experience was a rare, perfect intersection of food, location, and service. I don’t have a sensitive palate by any means but have been fortunate to eat at over 80 Michelin restaurants and this kitchen knows what they are doing; they were inventive without being gimmicky. Anything more than five courses would have seemed excessive and anything less not worth the time and effort to dine here after an 8-hour flight. The service was just as memorable as I had several conversations about the history of the hotel in addition to the food. I’ll add it to my mental rolodex of “Waikiki moments” which are as varied as the number of people on the beach. Excellent and highly recommended.

We had a fabulous dinner at Azure. From the hostess table to the lovely, peaceful table on the balcony overlooking the beach, to the well appointed menu and thoughtful friendly wait staff, this restaurant was really our favorite!! The waiter explained in much detail the items on the menu and recommended wines, etc. Each course was delicious and presented very artfully on the plate. Although rather costly it was worth every penny and we will be returning.

Hubby and I spent four nights at the fabulous Royal Hawaiian on Wakkiiki Beach in Honolulu, and the day time restaurant there is transformed into a gourmet restaurant and bar in the evening. It is an expensive restaurant, so it was quiet and relaxing. Our bartender made great cocktails, and we enjoyed conversation with some regulars here.

The nicest thing about Azure is its location adjacent to a pink Indian palace at the Royal Hawaiian Resort Hotel, off Kalakaua Avenue. We dined in this establishment on January 2017 and had a good experience. During our visit to Honolulu on January 2020 we gave the place a second try. Though Azure was mostly empty at the early evening hour of 6pm we were asked to wait for our “table to be set up”. In reality we observed the wait staff chatting leisurely with another customer. Since it was raining lightly we were seated at an interior part of the restaurant. Our waiter was behaving in an unusual manner while serving, approaching from behind and starling me. My partner had the same reaction as in “What is going on here?” We sampled a so-so chilled Asparagus soup; Three flavorless Seared Scallops that were too few in number; Grilled Snapper that was tough and tasteless; and Brussel Sprouts that were OK; Flower-less chocolate cake and Mango sorbet were a waste of calories; S. Pellegrino sparkling water was not chilled and had to be replaced. At $147 for two this was an overpriced and poor quality experience. TamiSmith, New York City

Azure at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel provided a mixed bag of dining results. We were a table of 4 adults. I had the 12 oz Duroc Pork Chop with vegetables for main course and the coconut mango panda cotta for dessert. The preparation, seasoning, presentation and flavor of both were exquisite. However, the service was inexcusably slow from greeting, through order taking to food delivery. By the time we ordered dessert, I had decided to time the interval from order to delivery. It was 45 minutes. Our waiter apologized on more than one occasion for the slow service but the restaurant was not full so the reason for delay was not obvious. I observed other tables experiencing similar slow service. To be fair, our desserts were comped due to the slow service. Clearly the food was equal to the high standards set at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. Unfortunately the service was not.

We went here for Mother's day and sat on the back porch which is on the beach. They were only serving a four course meal for $110/person. That was fine because the food was unique and very good. But will we were eating people rom the beach walked right through the restaurant. Some were drunk and most were in their bathing suits carrying food and drinks. Very strange. Kind of makes this high end resturant not so high end.

We reserved a table at Azure thinking we were going to be eating a wonderful meal in a romantic setting. The setting and atmosphere were great but the food left a lot to be desired, especially at such an extremely high price point. This was the most expensive meal of our entire trip and the food was the worst we had in Hawaii. If you’re in the area, Duke’s, Rum Fire, and Mai Tai are all much better options. Their food and drinks are better, they share the same type of atmosphere, and the price is much more affordable. Don’t waste your time unless you like overpriced gourmet food with mediocre drinks and average service.

Had been to Azure several times pre-pandemic and this is the first time post-pandemic and it isn’t near the quality it was before. For that price, I won’t be going back. At 6:45 pm they ran out of their signature Mai Tai punch, which left their sickenly sweet “regular” Mai Tai and the rum butter Azure Mai tai as your undrinkable alternatives that they wouldn’t take off the bill like most places when you don’t like the drink. The Ahi Tuna second course and the two desserts were very good, but the special fish was tasteless at best and serving it with rubbery Swiss chard wrapped scallops and barely warm “roasted” potatoes was a bit fail. Their wine list has also gone downhill. The service was the worst we experienced during our trip, waiting 15 minutes to have anyone speak to us. For those prices, this restaurant is (very sadly) no longer worth it

Go for the setting, the service and the ambience. The cuisine, while good, is overpriced for what it is. But the dining in an elegant beach side restaurant with an outstanding view of Diamond Head is definitely an experience well worth worth the price

We had a special anniversary dinner at Azure with their price fix menu and wonderful beach side table location and view of Waikiki beach after sunset. Our service and food was excellent. Book far in advance if you want a specific time/table location. Recommended for special occasions.

This was our first experience at Azure and we were very impressed. The restaurant is within the Royal Hawaiian Hotel on the at Waikiki Beach overlooking Diamond Head. We opted for the 5 course treating menu and every dish was extremely creatively presented and the flavors were sublime. Although it was a "tasting" menu, we were more than content when dinner was complete. Raymond was an outstanding server: very professional and affable. I also enjoyed the pacing of the dinner; unrushed, with ample time to enjoy every dish. This was a superb experience and we look forward to returning in the future!

I went here for my birthday, and had the four course dinner menu. It should be known the four course is the only option, and I then had the wine pairing that went with each course. I was astonished at the deliciousness of the food. I’m not a foodie by any means, but I greatly enjoyed this meal such that it was one of the best ones I have probably had in the past decade! The food is West meets Asian. There is a lot of Asian style/infused ideas and themes. I found that unique. The service was impeccable and my overall experience was one that I’ll remember for years to come. The price is higher, the four course was about $140 and the wine pairing was $55.

the food was great, we enjoyed the scallops and shrimp as starters and the rib-eye and the fish of the day as the main course. Also flowerless chocolate cake was great. The waiters were great and knowledgeable of the food and wine list. The view of the beach is wonderful.

Last night the 4 of us dined at Azure and enjoyed one of the best prefix Valentines dinner experiences we have had in a long time. Starting with the piping hot bread with the sea salt butter, the lobster salad, the Beef Wellington, and the unique rendition of strawberry shortcake for dessert - all of the courses served were very good! Even the side dishes that were served with the Beef Wellington were excellent… but it’s a shame they had to be sent back because they were served luke warm. When they were served hot what a difference it made. Of course, part of what made last night special was the excellent service we received from Tom our server and the nice Hawaiian music from the steel guitar musician. Like I said, in the beginning, it was certainly a Valentines experience to remember!

I went for dinner and had the set menu and matching wines. There were vagen option for all courses. The set menu consisted of a beet salad (no choice), then a choice of poached scallops, Ahi crudo or poached heart of palm. I had the Ahi crudo which was lovely. Main was a choice of striploin and short rib, pan seared local fish or seared tofu. I had the striploin which was not large but very tasty, Dessert was a choice of a citrus olive cake or honu tart (macadamia caramel, chocolate and denature butter mousse), which is what I went with and it was amazing. The matching wines were fabulous and the wait staff were fantastic - shout out to Raymond who was very forgiving of many questions. Not sure whether it was as I was by myself, but I was brought a book on the history of the Royal Hawaiian, which I did flick through but sitting overlooking Waikiki beach there's lots to look at.
