Had dinner here tonight and here are the Pros/Cons. Pros - location & friendly staff. Little necks $ Linguini & Clams Cons - menu is handwritten on a wall, Calamari Scampi had no taste, chewy and pasta had no taste. In my opinion better choice and not as expensive

We like lobster, clam, mussel, and shrimp. We ordered all with different cooking styles. Steam lobster, clams and mussels in white wine broth, and grilled shrimp. Amazing place.

A good, varied menu that's etched onto a white board at the back of the room and efficient service are the two best features of this restaurant. The cocktails are good (if a little expensive) too. The food it's self was really nice but I found my flounder to be a little too soaked in oil for my taste. My... More

Great atmosphere and excellent service. The specialty drinks were tasty but overpriced. We shared the Fra Diavlo and after consideration and reflection we came to the idea that it was spaghetti with a spicy tomato sauce with a LOT of mussels, a few clams and a whole lobster...MEH.

We did not even know there were specials till we saw the blackboard near the bar -- after we ordered. The food was way overpriced. The food was in consistent. I had delicious scallops; my husband had a small dry piece of salmon plus a typical small salad @ $33. Any other food was a la carte.

My husband and I had dinner here just before valentines day on the first weekend they reopened for the season. My husband had monkfish with their caper sauce and it is now our new favorite that we attempt to make ourselves at home.

This restaurant serves ONLY seafood so don't go looking for a steak. The seafood is fresh and the quality is top shelf

We were there for lunch. Too noisy but the food was good overall. Good value meal. I liked that we were accommodated fast and the waitress was very efficient.

I liked this place. Very straight to the point and casual. The menu is written on a chalk board. Lots to choose from. I got the whole lobster wood oven grill. It was perfectly cooked and a good size. I would come here again next time I'm in Newport.

Visited Newport for the first time for a long weekend. We were looking for somewhere to have a nice seafood dinner, and Scales and Shells was right down the street from where we were staying. There was about a 15 minute wait on a Saturday night which wasn't bad at all. The menu had a lot of great choices. We... More
