Food was generally good, but not really named appropriately. Nothing wrong with the chilaquiles except that they bore no resemblance to chilaquiles. The frijoles refrios were very good but the enchiladas were buried in a heavy meat sauce which was good but not Tex-Mex traditional.

El Mirador is a San Antonio institution, noted for breakfasts especially. Under new ownership it has recently had the interior upgraded . We headed for there during a record cold snap, with temps under freezing for their signature soups. One of the menu changes is offering only one soup, rather than three. Our choice is always the Aztec soup,a bit spicy, and a huge... More

Very good Menu with mexican and tex-mex options. The Chile Poblano was very good. The Enchilada is good. The service is nice, but slow. We made the reservation by Opentable. Very good parking space.

I loved everything about the renovations! It's beautiful; very LA:) The murals are exotic as are the interiors. Just a few things about the food however. I like option of having frijoles borachos rather than refritos. Not possible:( Also, we were there on Saturday and I was distressed to hear that all of the soup options are not available. Oy!,... Don't sit in the patio area, your order will not be taken. You will have to chase a waiter down. Its pricey and they tend to get the orders wrong. The excuses were: We are under new management, understaffed and we are doing the best we can. My family and I are NOT returning.

I called the restaurant at 9:00 am and inquired what their hours of operation are. I was told they close from 3:00-5:00 to organize for dinner. We walked from the King William neighborhood and arrived at 10:30 am. We walked in and were told they also close in the mornings and would reopen at 11:00. We walked for 30 minutes... More

After being closed for 3-4 months for renovations we headed out to check it out. Decor was a little more lively and Hispanic deco. The costillas were great although the rice that came with it had no flavor what so ever. Had to add salt but didn't help. Couldn't taste the garlic, comino or onion if it had any. My... More

El Mirador is the real thing. It ranks right up there with the very best Mexican restaurants in S.A. It was great in 1979 when I was a student at a local university and it remains so today. I took my son to see an exhibition Major League Baseball game this spring. I told him about this legendary restaurant that... More

El mirador has lost its flavor...ordered beef fajitas to go, covered in almost raw onions, green pepper and jalapeño, tiny bit of rice, no flavor. Dry beef. So disappointed. Could barely choke down...I give 2stars only because I used to enjoy the restaurant, but needs an overhaul ...the neighborhood needs this place....

So nice to find a relaxing place off the craziness of the Riverwalk. This is in South Town, and recommended by a friend who lives locally. The place has a history, having been established in 1968, and the owner still works the kitchen.Great friendly service. Margarita was good, Negra Modelo satisfying, and Diablo Margarita was a gingery slushie (yum!). We... More
