This was our second dining experience, yes, experience, at Restaurant Gwendolyn. San Antonio is our favorite city in Texas; Restaurant Gwendolyn is one of the reasons. I am unable to recall and to describe all the courses that we were served. I am able to say without reservation, that Restaurant Gwendolyn is a very special restaurant. My wife and I... More

So we didn't know what to expect of this place. They seemed very anti-technology on their website, but my friend wanted to go and it was Restaurant Week. Our server was awesome. About our age, so it helped the place seem less stuffy. With the restaurant week menu and a bottle of wine between the 3 of us, wasn't too... More

Gwendolyn is upfront about their "locally sourced fresh food", a very chic/popular move right now. However, in San Antonio that means turnips and beets in January as well as other unusual takes such as beet sorbet for dessert. If you're looking for a unique and new dining experience (for SA), this could be your place. I liked everything, but I've... More

I really wanted to like this place. the concept is great, the service was great, however it seems almost if they tried too hard to be hip. They change their menu seasonally, this season is all about "roots". That said, I was served an amuse bouche of ham and onion custard in an egg shell topped with a chip and... More

While the concept (no electric appliances, locally sourced, and only ingredients you could have gotten in San Antonio back in the 1800s) sounds a little gimmicky, it works. Honestly, the uniqueness was one of the reasons we went. The location was along the Riverwalk (although if you’re walking from the downtown area use the west side of the river or... More

We almost didn't go here even though so many recommended it. We looked at the menu online and it looked, well, weird! We decided to go ahead and take a chance, even though it was our anniversary and we are so glad we did! The place is very cozy - only 10 tables - yet several round ones if you... More

I went for lunch, the menu was quite small and they were out of one of the options, so I ended up having a seafood chowder. you can tell the time and care they put in the food and it was really very tasty. The dessert of corn pudding was really the highlight though as it was made in a... More

We dined here with our two teenage children. We wanted them to experience a tasting menu with truly excellent food. The service was very good and food was a uniquely delicious experience. All ingredients are local and made using only primitive kitchen tools.

Group of 4 adults and two teenagers experienced the 5 course tasting menu. Chef Michael personally came out to verify the food restrictions of two of our group (vegan and paleo). He was very accommodating and the food was delicious!! Watching the coffee brew was a great science lesson for everyone.

Had a very lovely meal here during the Christmas holidays with family but there were some kinks. Overall the food was very good but not excellent which is what I expect at this price point. My family did the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing-- the concept of the restaurant focusing on fresh food prepared with pre-1850's techniques was... More
