Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My 'experience' of The Old Clyde Bank began during the booking process. The restaurant does not have a sophisticated on-line booking system, it has something FAR better; co-owner, Wendy, who very quickly attends to any message you leave on their website. She politely and competently...dealt with my enquiry regarding a member of our party who has a severe food allergy, and the booking was made. Four of us dined on a Saturday evening. Wendy was covering all front of House roles while her husband covered all of the kitchen roles. The restauarant wasn't full that evening but I could see that Wendy was being attentive to each table. She made a huge role LOOK easy. I know that it isn't. The restaurant menu was not huge (on the evening we dined) but covered all of the bases for us. One thing that really stands out in my mind was the way Wendy dealt with two of our party who were having trouble deciding which wine to order; she simply brought out an opened bottle and gave both members of our party enough wine in a glass to allow them to make their decision. I've never seen that before and I have dined in some fairly high-end restaurants over the years. Very impressive hosting initiative. Each member of our party enjoyed their meal choices. Wendy again dealt with our party member's food allergy, checking with chef that all would be well with her dish selection. A real point of appreciation. Another member of our party wanted to split the bill with me. This is often met with heavy sighs and even outright refusal at many restaurants. Not when Wendy is running front-of-house. She was happy to turn the single total (amount) into two equal sub-amounts, (who would have thought it possible) then processed payment of the two sub-amounts, making it look so easy that anybody could do it. Take note other restaurants, its little things like this (when you refuse) that really annoy customers. Our party conversed after we had left and all of us agreed that it was a particularly good dining experience, so WELL DONE, Wendy and your chef partner.More

Loved my duck main and my partner enjoyed his lamb main. We shared a delicious gingerbread and caramel sauce dessert too. I really love the food at this restaurant. It is always delicious!

Over the week we visited a number of Clyde’s restaurants (including the top rated) but this place was the best. The email communication making a booking on the day was friendly and accommodating. The experience continued that way. A small and friendly place, the service...was great and the food fabulous. Not a flaw anywhere.More

Superb food, great surroundings. Starter of snapper with a chilli topping which was mouth-watering and then duck which was simply the best duck this side of the black stump. Plus a scrummy dessert! The choices all look very inviting. The combination of Wendy in front...of house and Werner doing his magic in the kitchen makes a night out at the Old Clyde Bank a memorable experience. Great to get a little taste of the wine before ordering and must say that the Dicey range of Central Otago wines are well worth trying.More

Everything about The Bank is incredible, this husband-and-wife team know how to perfect. The ambience is faultless, it has such a great feel. The service is six star, Wendy who is front of house goes above and beyond, and she is so genuine. The food...is exceptional, Werner equals any top restaurant throughout the world. The Old Bank is definitely a place you want to go to, you will not be disappointed.More

We had a delightful dinner at The Old Clyde Bank. Thanks for making such delicious duck Werner...it's my absolute favourite dish on the menu! We also enjoyed a superb ceviche (with a twist) for appetiser and my husband had a gingerbread dessert that he absolutely...loved - it was so indulgent! The food and presentation is top class with a carefully selected wine list. And we had such awesome service from Wendy. You guys are a fabulous team and really care about your guests! 😊More

We went with another couple. The service was perfect. Friendly and helpful but unobtrusive. We couldn't decide on the wine so were given a taster. Food was beautiful. We had duck, fish and beef. Every one of them were delicious. Totally recommend.

Absolutely lovely yet again. If you are looking for a lunch spot (we’ve never been for dinner so can’t speak to that) then this small place in the main street (indoor and outdoor seating) is in our opinion the best in Clyde. Small menu, expertly...done, charming service, incredible value.More

Menu has something for everyone. We had the seafood linguine and the seared tuna which were both absolutely delicious! Service is wonderful (thank you Wendy) and my coffee was lovely (kudos to Gary). Definitely recommended as 'The place to eat' in Clyde!

Our second time here and it reconfirms what we thought the first time. Exceptional quality, thoughtful dishes and really passionate people working their butts off to provide a small but perfectly formed menu. We had the risotto (wild mushroom, slow roasted fennel, sun-dried tomato, and...aged pecorino) and linguine (lemon, crème fraiche , mussels, shrimp, squid). Few glasses of wine in the sun, got a peek at the evening menu (local wild foods like venison, mushroom, fish) - now open Friday and Saturday nights. The chef was apparently last at Mt Difficulty for a long time- now in full control of his small kitchen he is making some really memorable dishes. Outstanding friendly service helps make this our new Clyde favourite.More

Great food and friendly service . Whilst the decor and ambiance are not to the same standards as Oliver’s the quality and the quantity of the food is very comparable. We were all very impressed with the food and the service was welcoming, friendly and...genuine. Will definitely be going back to dine and recommend others do the same. BarryMore
