The only good thing about this restaurant was the friendly waitress. Almost every table had a complaint about the food. Our steak sandwich was below average, chewy in places, the potato wedges were ok but clearly cooked from frozen. The worst part was the dessert of 'pihanga' sticky date pudding. How can you call this a sticky date pudding! Cold,... More

A relaxed setting, great for families and allcomers. Open from 11am thru the evening it offers a range of kiwi favorites and popular plates. Not a huge choice but this is a nice café.

Ate here on 1 occasion while staying at the Chateau. The cafe itself is pretty austere and lacks any atmosphere but our food was ok to good. Did the job but an uninspiring evening. With a bit more atmosphere or in the ski season it could be a lot better. Not quite a rating of 4

My husband and I ate here both nights that we stayed in Tongariro. We were staying at a nearby hotel but liked the look of the menu here better. Both nights, the food was amazing and the staff friendly. We both had the pasta of the day one night and the curry of the day the other night and found... More

Dropped in for coffee and dessert. Their "Chocolate over Chocolate" dessert of the day was listed as Tiramisu. That should have been my first clue since Tiramisu doesn't have any chocolate in it. What I was serviced was a store bought chocolate Swiss roll with mediocre vanilla ice cream on the side.

Because there are so few choices for lunch in the Whakapapa Village of Tongariro National Park, we stopped in for a quick lunch at the Pihanga Cafe. The menu choices were very limited so we opted for hamburgers. The food was 'okay,' but nothing note-worthy. The prices were relatively high for a simple lunch. I wish we had picked up... More

Spent a delightful afternoon here after a hike and during a rainstorm. Service was attentive even though the place was crowded. Enjoyed the vegetable risotto. Felt the prices were on the higher end but reflective of the limited choices in the neighborhood.

The place has the charme of an old station restaurant with the grumpy waitress to go with. Food was of mediocre quality. Meet in the burger was of dog food standard. Salat leaves were brown! Chicken was ok, though.

As expected, the food caters to a wide variety of tastes. We found it bland but fair. The beef curry was more of a beef stew, hot and hearty. The club sandwich and fries were good. All in all, we enjoyed a good meal after all long hike.
