Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

For a “fine dining” experience the food did not live up to expectation I am afraid. We ordered numerous dishes as we were a group and were left wondering why so much hype over such salted sauces and unbalanced offerings. Entrees were tasty. Mains meats...were suitably prepared but the sauces were very overpowering for our taste.More

TripAdvisor Review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bistro Molinés in Mount View Hunter Valley is a gem that deserves every bit of praise. While my lunch plans with friends didn't work out, I decided to treat myself, and I'm so glad I did. To start, the chicken and foie...gras was a symphony of flavors that set the tone for an exceptional meal. The duck that followed was nothing short of exquisite, leaving my taste buds dancing with delight. And, of course, the anticipation for dessert is almost as sweet as the meal itself. The wine selection here is a true highlight, with Molinés Chardonnay and a lovely Pinot complementing the dishes perfectly. The location is charming, and what truly makes Bistro Molinés shine is the warm hospitality of Sally and Robert. They create an inviting atmosphere that makes every visit memorable. If you appreciate fine dining, Bistro Molinés is a must-visit destination. This place is a testament to culinary excellence and exceptional service.More

Arrived at the restaurant where temperature was in the mid 30’s and windy was given a table outside but we immediately realised that this was not suitable and asked if we could have a table inside. We were shown to the worst table in the...dining room basically a small wooden table which was on a slant. Chairs were also very uncomfortable. We asked our waitress if this was the only table available as we could see other nicer tables available and these tables were not filled during our 2 hour dining time. This beggars the question as to why we were not seated there the first time. We were approached by who I would think was the restaurant manager who though was happy to move us spoke to me in a very condescending manner! And in a loud voice to boot so other diners could hear her. So our lunch experience which we were looking forward to was ruined. When staff make you feel as if they are doing you a favour by allowing you to dine and treat you with disrespect it then becomes a place I will not go to again or recommend. On their web page where they say that their ethos is to treat everyone with respect this was severely lacking here. Wines by the glass is not shown and you have to ask for it and are simply told the varietal of wines that they have but not the vineyard they are from or the costs per glass?! The food was great but the overall experience disappointing!More

Absolutely delicious food and beautiful setting. Very French provincial and very relaxed ambiance. Good portion sizes, not too rich and fresh produce and flavours. Service was very good. View outstanding. Hard to fault all round. Not cheap but definitely worth it.

After patronising Robert&Sally's restaurants each visit to the Hunter Valley for many years starting with Robert's at Pokolbin, our last two visits have been so disappointing we have decided to give it a miss in future. The view is stunning and the staff wonderful. Unfortunately...the food no longer matches it, and, at $100/head for two courses it is no longer value for money. On our last visit the lamb was very tough and the green spinach like vegetable inedible. As probably 60% of the set price for two coursed we expected much much better from the main course. Desserts at $30 each did not inspire. Add to this $120 return taxi fares from Pokolbin, and, if the meal is not up to scratch, you do not return. Sadly we have come to that position and say farewell to our lunches at Bistro Molines. We will now try different lunch venues starting with Circa 1876 which in the past has been high classMore

Another wonderful lunch in a setting that continues to delight. The food and wine were truly excellent, especially the vongole pasta, short rib of beef and blue eye cod - but it’s the staff that make this a truly special experience. We can’t wait to...return. Thank you!More

Sally and Robert have created a very special place. The lunch was delicious. Pierre (from France) was a great server. Beautiful setting. We loved that Sally took the time to sit and talk with us. Five star rating from us.

Fabulous food, extremely professional service and a beautiful location all added up to a memorable lunch. Even with 13 of us, we were not stuck with a set menu, but given the a la carte menu. My figs with Gorgonzola were delicious, the Blue Eyed...Cod was fantastic and the plum and almond tart was excellent. It took an hour for our cab to pick us up, but the entire time the staff were unfailingly friendly and helpful, and the teamwork on display was a joy to watch. I particularly like that you don’t get booted out after a two hour window, which some big-city restaurants should emulate. An excellent experience & I’ll happily go back.More

We have dined at Molines since its inception and have had some wonderful experiences, however we have observed over our previous 3 visits that this place has really gone down hill over the past few years. Whilst the service was acceptable, and the venue/location stunning,...the food quality is sub-standard and reminds me of cheap wedding food. In these days of staffing shortages (particularly good chefs) It seems that Robert has streamlined and simplified the kitchen to provide a homogenised shadow of his previously hearty French cuisine. Steaks cooked to order are out, and replaced with precooked sides of steak which are sliced into portions and reheated/sous vide for ease of service. The duck was tough as nails and even the frites (which were perfect several years ago) were tiny and insipid. Judging by some of the gushing, easily pleased reviewers, it seems that in these days of cheap money and property bubbles, there are plenty of cashed up bogans and nouveau riche boomers available to support Molines in its current incarnation. We however, we will be dining elsewhere and continue to fondly remember the Molines and Roberts of old, before the masses and the instagram kids removed the soul from fine dining and restaurateurs sold out for a quick buck...More

I feel sorry for the chefs at this potentially good restaurant, our table didn’t seem as important as the table next to us who seemed to have a constant stream of wait staff attending to them,. Not only did we have no water for 45...minutes or any thing at all to drink we waited patiently for someone to come by and offer service. This restaurant is considered to be chefs hat quality. I’m sorry but we experienced very poor customer service tonight. We paid for 3 courses and only received 2. At that point we just wanted to leave and not even entertain the idea of staying. At some point in the night the restaurant lost power due to a storm and I’m sure the kitchen struggled to continue service and for that a great job done in the heat of a kitchen but to see the staff setting tables around us as priority well that just shows the level of attention to detail. Let’s hope they can improve because it would take a lot for us to return. The forgotten table.More

$23 to $29, for large well-prepared dishes. Mains somewhat dearer. Including wine, we usually expect just over $100 per head, which is close to the taxi fare there and home again from where we live.
