Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Super friendly, efficient taberna with very good food. The perfect place in the main square for an evening drink and a meal while people watching and glimpsing at the distant mountains as they become black silhouettes against a starry sky as night falls on this...magical pueblo!More

Freshly prepared food. Very friendly staff. Couldn’t fault it. Again we had an amazing meal with good music playing and attentive staff.

I get the whole tip included culture and that you cannot expect to receive the same service from someone who does not have an incentive to provide better service. And I have had many waiters in these "tip included" jurisdictions that were not very friendly...but I didn't hold it against them. However, on May 10 the waiter at Taberna el Tilo was very nasty to us and for no apparent reason. I have to assume he was having a bad day because I cannot envision someone like this could survive much time in the service/hospitality business. We had our beer and took our lunch plans elsewhere. The sad thing is that this restaurant/Bar probably has decent food and is in a nice location.More

Located in a small square, plaza del Calvario, a short walk from the main road this restaurant/bar has plenty of good quality competition nearby. Perhaps because of this it has created a high quality range of typical Spanish and local dishes and then ensures the...table service matches this quality. Prices are inexpensive and even more so if you go at lunchtime during the week when you can enjoy a leisurely menu del dia. On the day we went the MdD had 3 options for the starter and main courses with more for postres. Starters included a lovely refreshing Salmorejo and an exquisite Pulpo (octopus) main course. In both cases they were beautifully cooked and really well presented. If you are thinking this isn’t for the kids, then you are wrong. There is a small children’s selection including a simple piece of grilled chicken together with a large homemade fish & potato croquette served with fries. This plate well caters for small children and comes with a child appealing ice cream (Smartie ice cream on a stick in out case). The service is efficient without rushing you and the waiter was able to explain clearly each dish. My guess is that the ingredients are very fresh thereby adding to the quality. Definitely recommended for all.More

Stopped here for a refreshing beer and some lunch after the morning walk! Food is delicious and beer was cool and refreshing. Service was a little slow but we didn’t mind as we needed the rest after the mornings trek, The setting in the town...square is idlic, the food is to die for! And the beer is cool- what more could one ask for?More

El Tilo quickly became our favourite restaurant. The menu is extensive and the food is always well-cooked and presented with a smile. Order a couple of courses and you may end up with a free liqueur and chocolate.

The sunshine, good food, a gorgeous white village in the Spanish mountains. If you need more than this, you are just greedy. I wish I were still there.

Just had a beautiful lunch at Bar El Tilo, stunning setting in the winter sunshine, friendly gracious service, live music from an accomplished trio as we are. Highly recommended!

Visited Capileira from recent Photographic Workshop at Cortijo Romero. Still plenty of sun around in Southern Spain even in November, but sitting out in the sun very welcome. Good coffee and great service. Hayling Seagoon

A delightful little town. At first sight seem to be far too many shops catering for the tourists, but all the merchandise appears to be of good quality. Wonderfully clean air at this altitude. Although mid November, quite warm enough to sit out in the...sun. I ordered a macchiato but received a much longer coffee. However it was very good and accompanied by swift, friendly, service. A nice outdoor dining area near the church. Very popular. We intended to have a drink only but ended up with having the Menu del Dia which was excellent value and nicely presented. The service was very good and the waiters very friendly and welcoming....The potatoes bravas were very good but HOT (spicy). We were disappointed not to eat again during our week as they were closed on Tuesdays.More

Visited four times - by the third time I felt like a regular. Obviously, if you speak Spanish, it helps with the sense of being made welcome, but either way the staff and customers are friendly (although, ahem, don't make the mistake of standing in...the way of the football on the TV - still, it broke the ice...). Serves delicious, nicely chilled beer, and even if you only ask for a plate of chips, they'll be good chips - freshly cut, nice and crisp. A comfortable place to spend some time.More

Set in the heart of the beautiful Alpujarran village of Capileira this little cafe-bar ticked all the boxes for a wonderfully simple and unpretentious lunch. We only had a couple of glasses of wine and some relatively straightforward bocadillos but even the simple things in...life can sometimes go wrong...here they are done right, in a beautiful location and at a very fair price.More

My parents and I enjoyed a quiet lunch here before most of the tourist buses came through town. We really loved the platter with different meats on it, and the nice views of the plaza and town.
