Always a good stop and a good meal when we travel thru Richmond. Good burgers and sandwiches. Great desserts as well when there is room after the good entrees. Have not had a bad meal in five stops. Good choice of beers and wine as well.

I went with a couple of friends I hadn't been with in a while. Most had never eaten here before so I recommended The Hill Café. The menu looked really good, and the food was good. When we used the bathroom it smelled before you even reached it. Stinky bathroom makes you think how clean is the kitchen?

We arrived Saturday afternoon, and were seated in the very back booth, dark and cold. We had difficulty reading the menu. We asked to be moved to a table nearer the door, and we they did move us. Our waitress was not friendly, and did the bare minimum in serving us. Even though we both ordered entrees, and not sandwiches,... More

Outstanding meal at the Hill cafe. Very reasonably priced. Plan to wait at diner time rush, seating small. Meal was delivered quickly and again outstanding. Strongly recommend, take the ride up Broad street hill.

Truly disappointed this trip. Had the Redneck Benedict (only because apparently on Saturday they serve brunch until 3 pm) regional difference, I guess. the poached eggs were over cooked, sausage like leather and the hash brown potatoes were way overseasoned, inedible. biscuit was ok, but nothing to write home about. Ate there year ago and had wonderful experience and great... More

My sister in law and I learned of this little café while taking a historic tour on the RVA trolley. Our tour guide mentioned that it was one of his favorites. We decided to try it out and were very pleased. The food was wonderful and the service was also. I had a crab cake sandwich and sweet potato fries.... More

I hate to review this spot as I don't want it so packed I can't get in. But we really enjoy this restaurant for when we want someplace that feels local. Nothing fancy but good food, delicious drinks in a friendly environment (reasonably priced). If it's a burger you want or their choice of the night, you won't go wrong.... More

I like the Hill area in Richmond. It is in satisfying disarray most of the time with the newly rich moving in and the newly poorer moving out, although to be fair most of this was on the cards long ago. The investments had been made, it was a question of when the area became attractive to the right demographic,... More

We were traveling along old highway 64 and stopped at this cafe. The food was great! It was also neat to walk around the neighborhood after dinner and take in the architecture.

full of locals wise to the good pricing and varied menu. Try the meat loaf and good desserts! Only a few blocks from St. John's church
