We wanted a quick breakfast and stopped for pastries to bring to bring to my son's house. They were very tasty but I thought a few pastries were a little burnt. The fillings were delicious - cheese and fig being a favorite. It is busy on the weekend and limited inside tables and few outside, tables were filled so be... More

We were directed from across the street to the best chocolate croissant in the whole town. Our fortune was great this day because they were great.

Visited my daughter who just moved to the Church Hill area in Richmond-- and discovered this bakery in walking distance from her apt. I am originally from Germany and know all about good bread-- their "Classic Bread" is the best bread I have ever found in the US in all the years I have lived here. Wish they could send... More

I visited Subrosa for the first time today, and was more impressed that I thought I would be by this locally famous bakery. I had a sampling of several items (on a food tour)and each was better than the last. Flaky pastry, tasty fillings, great texture of bread items. We were lucky enough to see the milling process used to... More

The bread is incredible. I moved to Virginia almost 20 years ago and have been consistently disappointed with bread and baked goods. That all changed today. I also tried one of the chocolate pastries and it was delicious.

We recently treated ourselves to a breakfast "picnic." The Sub Rosa Bakery came highly recommended to us by a friend. Luckily, we got there at the "right" time. When we arrived, there was only one person ahead of us. By the time we left, just a few minutes later, a group of 10-15 people were waiting. We got the Morning... More

I absolutely loved...loved... This place! An authentic neighborhood bakery. It's one thing to have the ambience of a neighborhood bakery but it's another to deliver an awesome product. The croissants are to die for! Try the Chocolate for breakfast and take a ham and cheese one with you for lunch! Staff was very friendly and helpful. The only one thing... More

This bakery came highly recommended. I rode my bike. The only disappointment was the sight of a line going out the door as I arrived. While the bakery is cute, and the goods they produce were worth the wait, I'm hoping I just showed up at the wrong time on the wrong day. It didn't make any sense to me... More

Wife had the Chocolate Bomb and I had the Salami and Cheese pastry - both very good and worth the 15 mile drive for us.

This bakery is both unique and delicious and the owners' story is quite interesting. The orange marmalade tart was rich and well balanced by a buttery, nutty crust. And the polenta bread -- OMG-- was crusty outside, hiding a moist and tender sour dough center. This bakery just become a "must do" stop for us when we are in Richmond.
