I moved to Seattle in 1979, and it was there then. Still has the same grease. This is an attraction as well as a place for some great, albeit greasy chili. Stop by next time you are in Ballard and hang with the locals.
Took my buddy from out of town here for lunch. He divulged on chile friends and cheeseburger while I ate the staple of chile, onions, jalapeños and cheese. Love it and will always support. FYI: no kids allowed since it is a bar.
