Wondered out of the French Qtr for a change. It is a nice, friendly hang-out. The drinks are reasonably priced and the food is awesome and very affordable. Great music and lots of hospitality. They serve lunch and dinner and have a great happy hour.

Bartenders are very friendly, although the food was mediocre. Try the burger. After sending my first order back bexause it was still frozen I got a burger and it was good.

This bar is a bit off the beaten path. The hospital is nearby so it's frequented by hospital staff when they get off work. The staff is friendly. Service was okay. You can get food there but I wouldn't go there for that. It's a drinking place for locals. Nothing special about this place, so it's not worth a visit... More

Just after we got there there was a power outage. The thing I learned quickly that people who dealt with things like Katrina don't worry about losing a little power. Candles were lit, service continued on a cash basis. Had a great time! Felt like a camp out!

Handsome Willy's is off the beaten path of tourists, but. it is truly worthy of a visit, if you really want a taste of local! This former brothel, in a neighborhood that was notorious, this being Storyville, will please the very basic needs when you want simple and delicious! This is the last of these culturally historic buildings, in a... More

This is a great little bar. The patio is nice and on Fridays there is free food- and it's actually good food. The bartenders are extremely friendly too. Lots of drink specials. You'll see a lot of hospital employees here on Fridays after work. The music gets louder and crowd gets younger as the night goes on. It's a real... More

We were in town for the holidays and had researched what restaurants and bars would be open during our visit. After finding Handsome Willy's website, we contacted the owner to check hours of operation during our stay. The response was gracious, and we ended up going there the first Sunday we were in town to watch the Saints game. We... More

The bar that is now Handsome Willy's was originally called The Jackson Inn and operated out of a streetcar, serving patrons who worked at the newly erected Charity Hospital. Originally, this area was part of historic black Storyville, the center of New Orleans-style debauchery in the early 1900s. Legend has it that the neighborhood pimp Handsome Willy was friends with Mr. Jackson and lived above the Jackson Inn for years.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
