Went to Bennachin on two consecutive evenings. Both times the food was slightly over-salted. Enjoyed it still, though. The service is excellent and the environment is cosy. I'd be more than happy to give this restaurant third shot during our stay in Nola - and fifth star. If only I would get one portion of total perfection! BUT - Don't... More

We were told about this place by a local. It's small and friendly. The food is plentiful and excellent. Service was great. We will come back next visit.

Wonderful little restaurant with great, cheap food (and big portions) if you need a break from the 'traditional' New Orlean's fare. Veg-friendly.

This is a small place with an African cuisine and a BYOB policy. Our server was a delight! The fried plantain with a spicy tomato sauce was perfect. I couldn't get enough of the pounded cassava, though some might find it bland. The talapia jambalaya was very good as was the braised chicken. We all loved the coconut rice, though... More

We always go here when we are in New Orleans. A very special place--great food and good service. They do not serve alcohol--bring your own.

Food was authentic, delicious and vegan friendly. Little restaurant is super cosy with all African art. Run by son and mother, you get friendly service and home cooked meals!

So the first thing to mention is this is not the place to go if you aren't that hungry. The portions here were huge. My family is vegan and we saw some comments on here saying vegan friendly. They really are vegan friendly they have a small vegi menu but most of their dishes can be easily made vegan by... More

Sampled a couple of dishes here during a bicycle culinary your. The fried plantains were delicious and well caramelized. Standout was the spinach with their house made hot sauce - it was delicious. Not sure what other menu options are.

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
