Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I follow Food Network TV personality Kardea Brown and she raved about Loretta's. There are 2 locations, one is a stall in the French Market (convenient for French Quarter visitors), the other is a cafe in Faubourg Marigny. I actually had to pass the rightfully famous and wildly popular Cafe du Monde to reach Loretta's, which I thought would be closed based on the hours posted on their website, but I was pleasantly surprised they were open.
Now I've had Cafe du Monde's famous beignets and they are indeed delicious. Where Loretta's changes the beignet game is that they offer different varieties, both sweet and savory. Plus they have other baked goods and sweet treats.
I ordered what Kardea ordered: the crab beignet and praline beignets. The crab beignet is an order of one for $8.50, pricey but very tasty. The praline beignets ($7+ for 3) were also good but very sweet, and the weight of the filling made the beignet less airy and light. I wonder how many hundreds of pounds of powdered sugar all the beignet places in New Orleans go through in a day. They had other things I would have liked to have tried (crawfish beignet, peanut butter and jelly beignet, different cookies), but New Orleans is a food town and you have to pace yourself!
Worth a visit.

I had crab stuffed beignet. It was very good The crab stuffed beignets are very good but they are very expensive. One of them cost $11. It was about 3"x 3". So you don't get a lot but it is delicious.
My sister-in-law got three plain beignets for $9.
We found out later if you go a block down the road to Cafe du Monde, you can get three plain beignets for $3.99

Stopped here on our way out of New Orleans. Got stuffed beignets and pralines. Beignets were fresh, hot, fluffy and the sugar wasn't clumpy. The pralines were delicious. Would definitely come back here if we visit New Orleans again.

If I could give the service at Loretta’s a negative star, I would. They were cash only at the register due to system challenge, and we paid $7.86 for the order of beignets with $10 cash. The cashier then said she needed to get change. Fast forward 20 minutes, she is behind in the kitchen on phone, while cook is eating his lunch from in customer view. Cashier then sits on counter in kitchen, and proceeds to come out and tell us there’s a system challenge and it will be 30 minutes. We ask for our order and she appears puzzled. We said- the order we placed that you took before getting change? We asked for the $10 back. She gives us change- we said no, we want the $10 and we can come back another time. She proceeds to scream at us, tell us we are hostile, when all she was doing was getting the cash register ready and we were angry over beignets- we just wanted the refund to try again another time. Very rude, condescending, and frankly, unsanitary conditions eating in a kitchen that way. Never again!

Nothing in stock. Overpriced. Got up early our last day especially for the crawfish beignets and to take home flavored pralines. Rampart store was closed. Quarter store opened late, No crawfish (it's crawfish season too), no cookies and 2 choices of pralines. Need to update their website hours and advise selections are limited on a daily basis. Very disappointed.

While Cafe DuMon is best known for their beignets the locals will tell you the best are found at Loretta’s at the beginning of the French Market. Unbelievable especially the beignets filled with pralines. Don’t miss it you won’t be disappointed.

Absolutely the best beignets I have ever had. The crab beignet was so flavorful and delicious. The Praline beignet was the single most delicious sweet bite I have tasted in my life. We ended up going three days in a row to get these amazing beignets.

Loretta's beignets, freshly made, are not to be missed. As I waited in the long line, that moved swiftly, I wondered if all the hype was worth it or just another establishment to grab tourist dollars. A native New Orleanian in the line assured me that the buzz was real. Once I bit into the first of three plain beignets, I was convinced. One order of three beignets will set you back $7.16 (as of October 2021). A 1/2 dozen original pralines will set you back $16.91 (however, they come individually wrapped and placed in a nice gift box).

I went here and had some terrific beignets. We got two of the traditional ones, and one crab, and one breakfast beignet with bacon egg and cheese. The first words out of my mouth were “wow” when she had the crab one one. Mine was was good, but I’m not sure I love the idea of the savory flavor. I feel like they should all be sweet. Great flavor over all we went there right when it opened so there wasn’t a line and very nice people inside. They aren’t big but they are filling enough.

We stopped here on a whim as we were walking along the french market. We went right as they were closing so they were not serving beignets anymore, so we just got a peanut butter praline, and an original praline. It was soooo velvety and good. They actually had quite the variety of pralines and beignets as well, including some more different/unique ones. Later when we were on a walking tour our guide recommended this to us as the best beignets and specifically the praline beignets. The cashier was very friendly, and the pralines are in a glass case so it was quick to get them. We ate them as we were walking back to our hotel.

Everyone goes on and on and on about Cafe Du Monde’s beignets (which are good, is a staple, and you should have as well), but Lorettas were the best beignets we had in New Orleans. They have different fillings which you can try but definitely do the praline filled. They are out of this world! In the french market so not a restaurant but very quick service. Don’t miss this one.

I’ve stuffed my face with different beignets in multiple locations looking for the best beignet.
Loretta’s is the best. They are light and fluffy and covered in delicious powder sugar. The other locations had heavy dough more like a bready cake.
Loretta’s beignets were how I imagined.
I would have eaten them everyday!
Make sure to catch her on the days she is open. I think closed Tues/Wed.
My foodie walking tour guide, Susan, recommended them and she was right. Delicious!

THE BEST BEIGNETS EVER! We went to the French Market specifically to try the Praline Beignets that everyone was raving about and they did not disappoint! They were a little piece of heaven. Fresh, fluffy with just the right amount of praline! We've sample plenty of beignets and these were, by far, the best we have ever had.

After trying the last 3 days, but they closed early, I finly caught a day they were open regular hours.
The service was great, the young man was friendly, informative and apologized they closed early for a few days.
I ordered the crab beneige. It was amazing, very well seasoned, hot and made to order. The rum praline was good also, flavorful.

We were walking around the market and wanted to try the beignets and Loretta's was recommended instead of Cafe du Monde (tried them the next day). Well Loretta's won the taste test so you definitely need to try for yourself. They were flaky and very very light we will be back also try the praline filled as well even better.

French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
