We have visited this restaurant in years past and always had a great meal. They closed for a period and we missed them when we went to NOLA. Happy they are back and the food is still wonderful. We ate there twice during our short visit (2 dinners out of 3). Oysters on the half shell, cup of gumbo and... More

When in season they do crawfish every night. So it was the crawfish that brought us there. Didn't realizet hat you have to order the potatoes, corn and sausage separately or they will not come with your platter of mudbugs. Tasty, but had a lingering after taste that wasn't completely pleasant. The head on gulf sized shrimps were very good.... More

They do not do reservations unless your party is 8 or more but if you go around 5-6 you should be able to get a table. The craw-fish and oysters were the best! This restaurant is not in the French Quarter so take a cab or uber to get there.

Frankie and Johnny's has been serving New Orleanians since about 1942. Located in uptown New Orleans, it has been spruced up since Hurricane Katrina. There's a long bar, some vending machines, television sets, a large back room, and a family-friendly atmosphere. The menu offers a range of New Orleans favorites, including gumbo and a variety of poor-boys. Service is quick... More

Best experience and food. First time eating crawfish with the kids. Oyster and shrimp Po boys we off the chart. Service was great and cold beers helped wash it all down. Worth the trip if you are in town.

Came here on a week night with out of town friends. Was not crowded and Paula seated us right away. Ordered Boudin Balls and Combo appetizers, then asked for the main courses to be held until we were ready (boiled crawfish, dozen raw oysters and dozen chargrilled oysters.) Everything came at once - we sent the oysters back until we... More

I frequented Frankie & Johnny's years ago in law school. I visited again on a trip to New Orleans and it is still the best. The gumbo is wonderful, the oysters are perfect, and the shrimp/oyster po boy can't be beat. They've cleaned it up and brightened it up a bit since my last trip. It will always be my... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighbourhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
