So there is a lot going really well here. The location is beautiful overlooking Jackson Square. Sitting by the large open doors is picture perfect, and our food arrived quickly (once we ordered) and it was hot. There is also a lot going on that really drags this restaurant down. You seat yourself, which is great, but only if someone... More

Ordered the Cajun combo which consists crawfish pie, jambalaya and a cup of gumbo. The jambalaya was dry tomatoey spicy rice with just 3 or 4 slices of sausage and no shrimp. The gumbo was just a soup with no shrimp or okra in it. A major disappointment when I'd been looking forward to a good Cajun meal.

We stopped here, because we were tired of walking, and thought to eat some Jambalaya... WHAT? We got spicy rice,,,, that is it... do not waste your money here, and not only that... actitude from a waiter, that went outside to smoke several times... forget it....

Afraid we had to walk out of here in pursuit of a place that wanted our business...... Cafe Pontalba didn't seem to care. Sat at a table for 10 minutes without a word from a server or even a menu. That was all I took for us to walk out.....

Excellent location with a lovely view of the Basilica with performing musical artists and everything stops there. It amazed me that our experience in such a short time in New Orleans was so grand-pleasant people in the service industry and on the streets proud of their city and their career choices. Our visit to Cafe Pontalba was a 180 degree... More

We ate here our first night in the quarter and enjoyed our meal. (We both ordered pasta dishes.) They were a bit busy, so there was a little bit of a wait to place our order, though it arrived within reasonable time. The food was good and we had a great open view of Jackson Square - possibly the nicest... More

Enjoyed this place during the Jazz Festival - live music played outside. Tasty bbq shrimp, but had to get dirty (remove head & shell). Very tasty, but would pass on this next time, found much better restaurants further into our stay.

Try the alligator sausage omlette, it is great. It was a toss up choosing it or the cajun omlette. I am sure both were equally as good. The hash browns were done to perfection and the biscuits were awsome. The service was super and the waitresses overlap tables refilling the coffee.

We were looking for a reasonably priced place to eat with NOLA style. We ate here twice in the 3 days we were here. The BBQ shrimp were the best we had. We had a variety of items and everything was good. The view of Jackson Square made the experience even better.

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
