Old school NOLA tradition. Super fresh raw oysters but we didn't care for the baked oysters. Old Italian prejudice against seafood and cheese and this was an example. Would have liked a better selection on wine but in the end this place is a gem.

My brother visiting from overseas and all he wants is oysters. The place to go is Casamento's. A weekend night and we get the last table by the door, but well taken care of. Local beers, oyster stew (this is not a heavy cream soup, but made with milk and butter and the oysters are poached so not tough) and... More

We have tried to eat here on 4 different occasions. All were during the posted times but for some reason wasn't open. Today we were determined to try once again. At 1 pm there wasn't a wait and we got right in. Service was not good and had 2 different waitresses and neither cared to be there. Maybe it had... More

Growing up in NOLA this was one of the places where your daddy or your grandaddy took you for your first oysters, or it's the first date. I guess because many people carry this nostalgia in their mind they don't see what is really going on. I sat with two generations of extended family who 'did the road down nostalgia... More

This restaurant is a dirty hole in a wall place where older people and hipsters like to go. There are two smallish rooms with formica top tables. The containers of horse radish on the tables are a little bit crusty and gross. Nothing here is super clean, and everything here is old. All the fried seafood is gluten free, just... More

Every time we're in New Orleans we get a lunch here. Off the tourist path on Magazine Street in Garden District but well worth the trolley ride out. A local place with some of the best oysters and seafood. Great wait staff. Highly recommended.

Small place on Magazine street, it has been there since around 1919. First off, it is cash only. There is an ATM if you need it. Place fills up fast, I recommend the gumbo and the grilled oysters which have a great cheese mixture on it. For non-seafood fans the grilled fries are also good with the same cheese mixture.... GO. Its one of the best places I had a meal in New Orleans, not expensive, very unique and original restaurant, and the oysters are to die for. You will do a line, I haven´t seen it empty, but its totally worth it.

Staying in Garden District

Neighbourhood Profile
Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.
