My husband and I ate at the Gumbo Shop because the previous night there was a line to get in so we figured it would be good. We had Shrimp Creole and Rice and Beans.

My wife and I had lunch here, and had an acceptable meal. My wife had a grilled chicken salad which was quite nice, the chicken was properly done and had good flavor. I had a crawfish Gumbo, which was disappointing. It was not real hot (temp) and was not spicy either. I had crawfish etoufe which was not remarkable either.... More

We were headed to oreillys but it was a zoo, so we left and were in search of food we didn't to walk too far and saw this place with its menu in the window which lured us into wonderful air conditioning. go late afternoon before the inevitable lines start--you don't want to wait for this creole food--southern sampler for the tourist or local at good prices. Jambalaya is excellent, and get the chicken and sausage gumbo first as appetizer, and the seafood gumbo second with dinner. don't be afraid to share, because you'll probably be telling your companion, "OMG, here--you've got... We would definitely give this restaurant a ten! Joseph, our waiter, was so friendly and efficient. Both the Chicken Andouille Gumbo and Crawfish Etouffee were absolutely delicious. We sat in the outside courtyard which was very intimate and welcoming. We will be back!

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
