Brigtsen's is out west of the town nearly at the end of the street car route down St Charles. Get off first stop after the river bend and walk towards the river two blocks. The restaurant is in a naet and tidy house that has small separate rooms for the coziest quality restaurant I know. The food is excellent. We... More

Two words: PECAN PIE! The whole meal was delicious and the folks who work there were great, but the pecan pie stole the show. So yummy!!

Lovely old house with well designed small dining rooms. Excellent wait staff, very helpful and friendly. Food was old style, and not very good. Presentation of the food was meh. Dessert was disappointing. Vegetarian option was terrible, unappetizing and tasteless.

Where else in earth except in New Orleans can you sit with friends and dine until your heart's content? At Brigsten's an old Shotgun House is the setting and you feel like you're at an old friend's home. The staff are warm, friendly and very accommodating. Then, then the food!! Four of us feasted. Chef Frank Brigsten has an incredible... More

This place is New Orleans through and through. Southern charm and hospitality. Polish without Pretension. Food that represents the best of a culture. The Brigtsens' have persevered and succeeded in one of the most competitive dining scenes in the country while surviving the worst Mother Nature could offer. And in doing so, have become an iconic restaurant in a city... More

Brigsten's restaurant is in an historic former home in the Riverbend area. I would urge any visitors to take the Charles St tram out here. As a Brit, I was unsure what the area would be like. It's a nice, well-heeled leafy suburb. Mrs Brigsten met us on arrival. This is a friendly business run by a family and you... More

If you only have time for one dinner in New Orleans, Brigtsen's should be at the top of the list. A James Beard award winning Chef in 1992, Frank Brigtsen learned from Chef Paul Prudhomme. His menu changes daily. During crawfish season, you must get the Crawfish Bisque. His Roast Duck is a great non-seafood entree. The Pan Fried Speckled... More

It was such a pleasant feeling to walk into the charming little white house in an actual neighborhood and be greeted by Chef Brigtsen himself. We were seated in a small room of the house and provided with perfect attention throughout our meal. The walls are adorned with lovely, peaceful art pieces. I started with the Corn and Crawfish Soup... More

Our meal was so delicious I would like to eat there every night. Just run through the menu and I know I would not leave there with out a smile on my face.

Brigtsen's is a venerable New Orleans restaurant that serves classic Louisiana cuisine in an old house out from the main tourist haunts. Like every restaurant that started in a (quaint, old, victorian, fill-in-the-blank.) home years ago, Brigtsen's feels both charming and tired— like an old home place that family members remember fondly, yet don't want to live in now. Brigtsen's... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighbourhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
