Our first experience at Ancora was on an off night, early in the evening. It was quiet, the service was attentive, and the food was delicious. We decided to go again, but this was with out of town company, on a crazy busy Friday night. Even thought there was a wait to get in... Brinn (sp?) couldn't have been nicer... More

This restaurant is in my uptown neighborhood which makes it off the beaten path if you are staying in the French Quarter. It is definitely worth the trip uptown, and it is only about 5 blocks from the St Charles streetcar. The menu is small but constantly changing with daily specials. I always order the market salad. Last night it... More

We are fans of new and innovative pizza “joints”, and this place hit the mark. They have daily pizza specials which are unique and their salad and appetizers will excite the appetite. The pizza crust was thin and crisp, but not crackly and the wine list was inventive and tested my knowledge with new grape varieties.

Very nice, bustling pizza parlor on freret street. Atmosphere is busy and noisy! But you cannot beat the pizza here. It is fresh baked in a 1000 degree tiled brick oven. Fresh topping like fresh mozarella cheese from the St. James Cheese shoppe. Fresh cut salami and pepperoni. Brussel sprout appetizer was phenominal. Quality fresh ingredients and made with loving... Not a lot of selection but the pizza was fantastic. They don't let you buy liquor with a vertical license, even if it's valid. After telling us that, none of the waitstaff acknowledged us other than to bring food and the check, despite the fact that we were polite and understanding. It was very rude and disappointing.

While it's not your usual pizza, the flavors you will find are delicious! Friendly service and beautiful decor. You will feel right at home immediately. The desserts and appetizers are mouth watering. Definitely try the gnocchi! It will set fireworks off in your mouth!

Very unusual to find a pizza place that also makes their own meats. Always worth the trip to get here from downtown. Streetcar on st. Charles gets you to within a few blocks walk of Ancora. The beautiful Italian pizza oven adds to the authenticity. All Italian ingredients and recipes. Great caramel ice cream for desert.

Always visit Ancora when we're in NOLA. Kelly is the best. Good contorni & pizza. Friendly service. Casual atmosphere.

This was the second time we have been here and the food was as good as we remembered. The meatball appetizer is so good, as well as the ricotta bruschetta ! The pizza has the perfect amount of crisp crust with delicious fresh toppings. The service was better the first time we came but it was not bad this visit.... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighbourhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
