Nothing beats the beignets here. $3.40 gets you 3 of these delicious, warm, icing sugar coated French donuts. Enough to fill you up for breakfast or for a decent snack between meals. Cash only and the waiters/waitresses expect to be tipped. There is usually jazz playing just outside so you can enjoy good music while eating your beignets. You can also get take away but on weekdays there are usually plenty of tables to sit at. When you find a table, one of the waiters/waitresses will come and take your order. Definitely worth going.

We went to this place as we heard that it was famous and that one "had to" go there on a visit to New Orleans. And, as it hapens to be on the first stop of the Hop-on, Hop-off bus, we found it right away. It was very crowded which was not too much of a suprise. You have to keep your yes open and grab a table when you see on. The waitrsses were very busy and they certainly weren't working for their tips - all of them pretty rude from what I observed. They nly serve coffee and beignets. The coffee was okay (this from a Seattle person). I thought that the beignets were very good. This definately isn't a sit back and relax place: order your food, pay cash immediately, eat, and get out so that someone else can get a table. I'm glad that I went to experieince this well known place, but I probably won't go back again.

Had to try them given we were in New Orleans. Used the to-go window on a weekday morning about 9 am, there was almost no wait. I think we got our coffee and beignets in less than 5 minutes and went to sit on a bench by the river. The amount of powdered sugar in the bag is ridiculous, so be careful. It will probably get all over you. I don't know why they do that as it's probably 5x-10x what is needed. Beignets are tasty. I didn't think they were as amazing as some people suggested, but of course they were good. Coffee was EXTREMELY hot. Cups were well insulated so it felt like the coffee was cool, but it was about the hottest coffee I've ever been served. I took the lid off and let it cool almost 20 minutes before I felt comfortable drinking it. Burnt my tongue when I tried the first time 5-10 min in. Be careful! Worth the trip. You can park in a weird lot by the river that was less full than I expected. The "Premier Parking" app does a good job showing you available parking and the cost. You can download it from the the Google Play store.

If you have never had this fried piece of dough, please don’t base your opinion of this ubiquitous treat by what the overhyped, overextended Cafe du Monde serves. If done right, you would not forget these pillowy, hot, tender, melt in your mouth nuggets of goodness. I can see why Cafe du Monde overloads on the confectioners sugar. (Trying to cover up mediocrity is never a good thing.) We felt like we were eating pieces of ciabatta bread. Dense, flavorless dough that you had to play tug of war with to get a bite. What an absolute disappointment from the ones we have enjoyed in the past. If you are ever near Charleston SC, visit the Angel Oak restaurant where all beignets are made to order and are just the perfect sweet ending to a meal. (Or beginning or middle!) They are so good, we never even get to the dark chocolate sauce served on the side.

We went around 10pm and it was packed but plenty of seating nonetheless. The menu is listed on the napkins and its basically only 2 things, coffee and beignets. The coffee was wonderful. If you like strong Starbucks this isn't for you as coffee with chicory has less caffeine and is more nutty then bitey. My husband and I LOVED it and we drink a breakfast blend each morning. The beignet donuts are hot and COVERED in powdered sugar. We used the powdered sugar to sweeten our coffee not by choice but because so much falls off the donut! They were awesome and the indoor/outdoor seating made it a wonderful people watching experience. All in all we were there maybe 20-30 minutes, $14 for 2 orders of beignets (3 per order is plenty we likely could have split one order) and 2 Cafe Au Laits.

This was our family's first visit to New Orleans, but it was during the pandemic, so much was closed or limited. I suspect our visit to Cafe Du Monde was no different. I went to the man seated at a table in the doorway and gave him $4 per bag of beignets, which he grabbed from the table behind him and handed to me. They was a half a box of powdered sugar in each bag of 4 beignets, which were luke warm and very chewy. We cannot comment on the beverages, as we did not order any. There were some musicians performing on the street, which made for very nice atmosphere, but we were a bit nervous due to the signage saying to guard our things.

Cafe Du Monde may be a local institution, but we were hugely underwhelmed. The queue for the branch in the middle of town was so long we didn’t even bother joining - especially when we saw the state of the Cafe itself. The tables were packed in, service was slow, there was food and rubbish all over the floor and tables and the coffee was served in disposable cups. Hardly a high end looking place. We did try the branch in the City Park. The queue was much shorter, and the service friendly but the beignets were average, as was the coffee. One of those institutions that has sadly succumbed to its own hype and suffered as a result. There are so many better places to have coffee & beignets in town...

Bottom line up front: if you have never been here, you should go, unless you live in this state, I am not sure you will experience this atmosphere anywhere else. The place is always crowded, people wait in line forever like it is a roller coaster or something fantastic. When you finally get in the place, you should wait until they wave you to a table. Service is quick once they realize you have sat a dirty table. Menu is limited: Coke, coffee or orange juice & beignets. People watching is the thing to do in NOLA & this place is no different! You will get a kick out of watching people trying to eat the beignets without getting powered sugar on their face & clothes. You will also make good entertainment for other strangers when you try to do it as well. Spoiler alert: beignets taste like a funnel cake!

Cafe Du Monde has been a meeting spot in the French Market in New Orleans since 1862. If you are looking for hot, fresh beignets and hot coffee with chicory or hot chocolate, it's a place to rest your feet and enjoy these fritter-like treats. Cafe Du Monde is open 24 hours a day and is almost always busy. The cafe is crowded but service is great. The servers are constantly serving food and cleaning dishes so even when there was a wait, it was short. Two things you must know....cash only at Cafe Du Monde and only two restrooms for a very busy place. There are eleven locations throughout New Orleans but I like the original location on Decataur Street

We were there on a weekday with no wait. On weekends, wait can be >1-2 hours. I pity anyone waiting to eat here. There are great beignets all over the city...eat somewhere else. At this place, you get a beignet, topped by 1-2 lbs of powdered sugar, so only eat here if you love to eat powdered sugar by the spoonful, as that is all you are going to taste. Coffee is lukewarm and in tiny amounts. This place might have been the gold standard 20-30 years ago, but now it is a joke. It is filthy dirty, and you can smell the sewer, no matter where you sit in this place. Disgusting. FYI, there is a 2nd location in the City Park with little to no wait. But the food is just as tasteless.

The Cafe DuMonde in the French Quarter by the water is amazing. Steaming hot beignets with hot chocolate is the perfect treat after walking through the shops in the French Quarter. Take ma seat, rest your legs, order a treat for $7 and you get a little slice of New Orleans heaven❤️

We went to the Cafe Du Monde 4 times during our 5 day visit to New Orleans and would have gone more if we could have. The beignets were the best and even though lines seemed long we were seated very quickly and enjoyed the atmosphere. The location near the waterfront is also great. You cannot visit New Orleans without going to the Cafe Du Mond!

I had so many people tell me that I "have to go there" that I was a little put off, but I was pleasantly surprised. There is no doubt that they have good beignets, but are they the best in the city? I don't know. I do know that I got 3 big beignets and a cup of cocoa for a very reasonable price, and it wasn't too crowded. It is definitely a New Orleans experience to go there, and I think if you're visiting you should. Ive had locals tell me there are better places, but the Cafe Du Monde is a landmark and worth going to.

This happened today on a Saturday afternoon. There are 2 lineups one for take out (cash only) and another for dine in. We took the take out, lined up for half an hour. We didnt mind it but the worst part was this lady at the counter who got all upset with me for buying only 2 orders of beignets. Like she threw the doughnuts at me and left the change on the counter and turned away. Why? I mean these doughnuts aren't even that great, just dry, choky, cheap, chewy, greasy slob served by a horrible server.

We decided to stop by Cafe DuMonde after the Sugar Bowl, around 3am... When we walked up their were staff members on their phones on a break, with only one server working the 15-18 tables of patrons. Once we were seated, it took over 20 minutes for our order of beignets & coffee to be placed, and when it arrived 5 minutes later, the coffee was luke warm & the beignets were room temperature at best. VERY DISAPPOINTING experience at such a historic and must-visit place when in NOLA.

French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
