Best barbecue in this area. The chopped sandwich and the chopped plate can't be beat. The hush puppies and barbecue cole slaw are a hit and shouldn't be missed. The cobbler is good but not as good as it used to be.

I love eating Barbeque at Stamey's. It is always very lean and not full of fat like some other places. The food is always hot and fast!

Simple, cheap and satisfying. Very light smoke and basic vinegar / pepper sauce; the flavors will not blow you away, but that's not point of a place like this.

Barbecue is one of the most polarizing words in North American and in the South it is a religion. There are many different sects of this religion, and everyone thinks that their way is the right way. Stamey's is a vinegar based pork barbecue (they also have chicken). It comes in only a couple ways, chopped or sliced, on a... More

I know a lot of people ave yet to hear about this, but Stamey's is now serving breakfast, and wow, it is good.... The only think I don't care for is the gravy they're using for putting on the biscuit. It is not a white country gravy, but although having a good flavor, is more like a gravy you would... More

Stamey's Barbecue at the Coliseum has begun serving breakfast, and it is worth trying. The biscuits were light, and fluffy with a golden crust. The tenderloin was fork tender, dipped into gravy and nicely seasoned. Ask for it to be dipped in the gravy (free), or order a side of gravy if you need extra. I asked for lightly scrambled... More

I like Stamey's but this visit wasn't as good as in the past. It's still good though. Quick service and cheap eats. Hush puppies are very good- light and not greasy. Brunswick Stew is worth getting too. Wish they'd offer another 1-2 BBQ sauce choices.

While visiting friends they suggested Stamey's for dinner. We had the chopped pork platter. The platter came with hush puppies and cole slaw. The cole slaw had a nice tang to it and the hush puppies had a nice flavor with out being greasy. The chopped pork had that nice vinegary flavor consistent with eastern BBQ. Good solid BBQ at... We decided to try Stamey's for breakfast after voting at the Coliseum and it was fantastic! True, they don't have a large menu but it is quite sufficient- and it is good! I ordered the bacon and eggs, and my friend ordered sausage and eggs. The eggs were cooked just as we ordered them, and I got 3 pieces of... More

Most barbecue restaurants have introduced gas or electric cooking methods, but not us! We still slow cook our barbecue over a pit of hardwood hickory coals. The brick pits are completely enclosed, except for a bit of breathing room at the bottom. The hardwood coals are carefully monitored because they will dry the face of the pork if they get too hot. As each 15-pound pork shoulder cooks, the drippings fall onto the hot coals, sending the hickory smoke flavor into the pork. Once the tender pork is done, it is chopped or sliced to order, ensuring the freshest plate for our customers. No meal is complete without at least some of Stamey's keys to lasting barbecue success: Wood Cooked Pork Barbecue, Smiling service, Stamey's slaw, Fresh Brewed Sweet tea, Homemade cobbler and Hot Hushpuppies (introduced to North Carolina barbecue diners by founder Warner Stamey, himself!)
