Japanese dining conjures up thoughts of peaceful, tasty dining, an experience that calms and uplifts you. None of that will happen here. First, they cater to children. Loud children. Doesn't really go with the genre. The service is okay; don't let them seat you next to the bathroom if you dine alone. I ordered sushi and a salad. The salad... More

I was in Brooklyn for a few days and met a friend here for a quick dinner. The sushi was great! Fresh, tasty, and plenty of it. They also had quite a lovely assortment of sake. I would happily recommend stopping here.

You can tell the place is clean, food is fresh! But, I had such a hard time!!! It made my dinner with my son a disaster! Not to mention some little communication issues, I ordered for my 7yo son a nigiri sushi platter (the traditional rice with salmon on top!) and they put wasabi in the middle of it!!! Since... More

Went here on recommendations of friends who live up the street. The oysters WERE incredible, but overall it was just...."meh." The interior doesn't have much soul and my chirashi was just average. For my money I'd prefer Kiku on 5th. Kiku has a much more beautiful interior and I think the sushi is better.

Taking a stance somewhere in the middle of the above, I recommend this great spot for a variety of sushi eaters. For my husband, who will eat only standard rolls, tempura and apps like dumplings, this place was perfect. All of the above were delicate and flavorful. My son, who eats all offerings at a sushi restaurant, declared this to... More

So I was in Brooklyn Thursday night for a Friday a.m. conference at Brooklyn Law School and so naturally I had to do an interweb search for the best sushi bar in Brooklyn. Lot's of bad information but the consensus was Taro Sushi on Flatbush which happened to be within walking distance of both BLS and my budget hotel. It... More

Walked by here few days ago and was told by a friend that Taro Sushi is one of the best in Brooklyn giving its quality of fish. Ok! Let me give it a try! Came here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and see what the rave is all about. The decor is decent, not sure if the owners are... More

i am a picky sushi eater, only eat sushi at a Japanese owned restaurant, the quality of fish that they buy is different than anywhere else. and surprisingly it is not as expensive as you would think it should be given the best quality fish they get. for years i have been getting the sashimi deluxe, until i learned about... Don't know if it was more fun going to Taro when they were in their old space, a small, scruffy store front on Dean Street which took a little courage to go into, or their new space on Flatbush, which is as attractive and comfortable as a small restaurant can be, but the food has thankfully remained consistently delicious. They... More

I don't know why people rave about this place. It's not bad but it's not the best. For years all I've heard is that the fish is flown in from Japan as if this should make it a big deal. Who cares? It's tight and cramped in there. I guess if you think the place is small it's "exclusive" or... More
