You walk in and smell the fire in the fireplace and feel the ambiance and hope the food is as good (It is an Irish restaurant after all). It is. The staff was attentive and knowledgable. It wasn't overly busy but it had a good bar crowd going.

Worse experience ever at a restaurant. I travel extensively and dine out extensively. We had a reservation for party of nine. Ordering drinks and food for three hours. All very professional people at table. The manager comes to our table and tells us we have leave as they have other reservations. Place was only 3/4 full. When we made the... More

With JohnJoe Wed to Sunday the craic is here. Whether it's classic Shepherds Pie, moist flavorful crab cakes, an oh so perfect burger, or, a basket of the very BEST WINGS and a perfectly pulled half&half you won't be disappointed. Dont let the waitstaff's spotty service dampen your time because with the Pope's hat in the background, James Joyce in... More

The service is fast and the company is relaxed at an easy-to-find location on Chestnut Street. The staff is polite and the food reasonably priced.

My wife and I were in search of a late night snack. We stumbled upon the Plough and The Stars. The waiter (John) was very welcoming and he stretched the kitchen hours a wee bit for us. It was just appetizers, but they were very good, and the ambiance and staff were great. They made us feel like locals, and... More

I enjoy dining here early before it gets too noisy and busy. They have a very excellent and extensive menu and the food is always very good and reasonable priced with lots of drafts on tap

My wife and I had dinner at this restaurant prior to a show and we really liked the restaurant and food. I had the duck con fit and she had the braised chicken, both of which were excellent (I had not had lamb in decades, but this was very good!). We will be coming back to hear the entertainment at... We got right in on a busy Saturday night. We had a lovely table on the second floor loft area. Everything was nice but our waitress Eryn went above and beyond for all of our silly request and there was no type of rush for us to finish and get out. We literally spent hours there enjoying the atmosphere and... More

Great welcoming staff, great selection of drinks, we went for a pre-dinner drink and ended up eating there, food was magnificent and reasonably priced and we stayed all night and had great craic with Austin and the Glaswegian from Wales. Highly recommend this pub, it must be the best Pub in Philadelphia.

Wonderful atmosphere, food has suffered lately. We enjoy going on Sunday nights to hear the Irish music. The food and service lately has not been good however.

Description
At the Plough & the Stars the owners are determined to bring the true taste of Ireland to Philadelphia, our food is described as Western European with a strong Irish influence. We were awarded by Citysearch as Philadelphia's Best Brunch. We have been featured numerous times on the Food Network and have cooked at the James Beard House in New York. Enjoy our famous Mussells Veloute, Striped Bass with Potato Crusted Scales or Guinness Casserole. Or if you prefer you can dine on our casual bar fare.

We have installed the most sophisticated beer system in the US, imported directly from Ireland and installed by Guinness technicians. Each pint of the 12 beers on tap is perfect.
