I had dinner here with friends and it was delicious! We had caprese salad and burrata... both of which were very fresh and very delicious. I had a creamy mushroom and bacon pasta dish which was so so rich and delicious. My husband had the bolognese and that was delicious as well. We also had the tiramisu which was yummy.... More

There's nothing like a caprese salad to start off a meal, so we're glad you enjoyed yours! It's great that you and your husband liked your orders -- sounds like the kitchen did a pretty good job all the way around. We'll be sure to tell them you said so! It'll definitely make their day. Hope to see you back... More

Very accomodating and warm restaurant! We were fitted in for dinner just before closing and the meals were prepared as if they had just opened with attention to detail and care! Worth the drive from midtown!

Let me tell you this story. When the moment came to leave after paying the bill and writing our tips on the ticket, our waiter and seemingly the boss of the restaurant caught us to talk to us about the tip. He was explaining to us that usually the tip is the double of the tax fee. We were first... More

Sarah, we know we reached out on Yelp already, but we want to touch base here as well. We're sorry if you didn't fully enjoy your experience when you stopped by. You should find a warm welcome and attentive service here, so it's disappointing if you didn't feel that was the case. While a tip is always appreciated, it remains... More

Rocked up without a reservation but they got us in. Don't rely on that though. I'd book Really lovely fun staff and a simple menu using fresh produce. If the prosciutto wrapped asparagus is on the specials just order it. We ordered two it was that good. Mains we had the four cheese gnocchi and the tagliatelle bolognaise were divine.... More

The waiters here are what really makes it genuine Italian with their thick Italian accents and pure love for food. I always get the truffle spaghetti dish it is absolutely amazing. Really nice romantic atmosphere, good for date night and really reasonable prices.

There were 5 of us for dinner. We had a reservation at 7:30 pm on a Friday. The place was packed. Medium sized restaurant, gave us a comfortable and relaxing feel. Most of the pasta dishes are homemade (avg.$15). The arugula salad is enough for 3 people to share ($9.95) and was delicious! The risotto special was really good ($14.95).... More

Rustic and Modern blend together in a magic atmosphere at Giano Restaurant in New York City's East Village. We use only fresh and seasonal ingredients in each of the handcrafted dishes on our traditional and contemporary menus. From a classic American brunch with a twist of Italy to indulgent desserts that are sure to delight, our one love for our customers and our food always shines through at Giano Restaurant.

The Art of Food is tradition and innovation. Tradition because it is tied to culture, to history, to place, to a timeless art much like the world itself. Innovation because this involves research and experimentation and, at the same time, a bit of provocation. It's like the history of man: a look towards the future, to progress, without forgetting the experience of the past. To experiment requires knowledge; to innovate requires possession of the techniques from the past. Innovation and tradition are two sides of the same face. The face of Giano.

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
