We visit NYC regularly and every time we make sure to go to Pala. My daughter has gluten and dairy issues and they are so accommodating and careful. We feel very safe eating there and the food is exceptional. Our must-haves are the GF calamari appetizer and the GF spaghetti and meatballs. They're also very consistent. We've never had a... More

Small quaint place on the lower east side. Pizza was great. Service was great. This is a hidden gem.

Had a few drinks here (decent glasses of wine) and a bite to eat. The food was "OK", but nothing very special. However, the atmosphere was nice and the staff really friendly.

I ordered take out from here while staying in New York and the pizza was extremely small. There was no description on the menu about the size of the pizza or how many people it feeds. The crust tasted like cardboard and everything on it was just a complete mess. Not only this, but it was ridiculously expensive! I paid... More

Went here tonight for my first supper out while in New York. The bathroom was broken and the AC wasn't working in 91 degree weather. .... but the service was awesome, they gave us a free drink and made sure we were comfortable. The food was really good too.

We have been to Pala several times when we visit NYC and it is still our favorite. The Zucca pizza is to die for. It has butternut squash purée topped with pancetta and smoked mozzarella. Delish!

Pala is a hip independent pizza and pasta restaurant on the junction of Allen Street and East Houston Street in the heart of the buzzing Lower East Side NYC bar and restaurant scene. Pala is relaxed and informal. A post industrial setting that resembles a refurbished garage. Glass doors open up in summer so that tables can border the sidewalk.... More

I loved this place. Its very small and cozy like most restaurants in New York. The pizza is bomb. I'm the pickiest eater ever and i was afraid to try their pizza, because they didnt have anything plain, so i got the broccolini, which had broccoli, sliced potatoes, onions, and sausage. It was super good. If you're really hungry you... More

We went as a large group -- 3 families with several people with Vegan and Gluten Free diets. Much to our delight, every food item we ordered from them was simply awesome! Their pizzas were simply superb and some of the best we have tasted without all that heavy cheese. Their pasta dishes are to die for -- delicious, most... More

I jumped in there by chance (and help of TripAdvisor) as I wanted to go to the Rock Wood Music Hall next door. They were super friendy, the atmosphere was great and it was my best glutenfree Pizza ever! I absolutly recommend them!

Voted "Best Pizza" by Daily News readers. Pizza is taken seriously at this Lower East Side pizza restaurant. Chef/Owner Gigio Palazzo creates oblong Roman pies made with your choice of an ORGANIC MULTIGRAIN Crust or GLUTEN FREE crust. Pala is known for fresh, innovative pies such as "Zucca" pumpkin puree, pancetta and smoked scamorza cheese and "Bufala Cruda" oven melted cherry tomatoes, fresh buffalo mozzarella and whole basil leaves. Pizzas are served on long wooden "Pala's" or pizza peels and are excellent for sharing in groups. In addition to pizzas, Palazzo serves up homemade specialties like "arancini" and "fiori di zucca" not to mention an impressive list of salads, pastas and desserts. **NEW GLUTEN FREE and VEGAN menus available. Wine, beer and a full bar top off the experience at Pala.

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighbourhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.
