We dropped into the bar at The Smith near the Lincoln Centre on New Years Eve. We had such a great time, we went back for dinner a week later. The food and wine were a little pricey, but good. It's not fine dining, but it was one of our more enjoyable meals in New York. It has a really... More

The food here was nothing special. The "chicken pot pie" was bland with a thin sauce. Each item cost about half again as much as it should have. The service was good except that we were charged twice for an item and the waiter seemed to know exactly what the problem was before I had a chance to tell him... More

We were in the city during the day on NYE without a plan. Hungry for a quick bite to eat we happened upon The Smith. We were lucky that they were able to seat us pretty quickly, though the place was packed. It was a bit of a hip crowd, but it was fun and lively. The atmosphere was fun... More

The food at The Smith is pretty decent. We visited the East Village location, and tried everyone on the "Snacks" list. Can't go wrong with deep fried everything, right? The lobster roll was a bit lacking in flavour, though. The service was atrocious, though - from the minute we walked it, incompetence abounded, and it was clear that staff were... More

Seriously good meal. Took the whole family and we were famished after braving the post-Christmas crowd at the Rock. We started with the hot chips (who knew blue cheese went well with potato chips) and my son had the Mac and cheese, which was as good as any homemade I've ever had. The men each had perfectly cooked cuts of... More

There is just a great vibe about this restaurant. I've been to most locations and they are all great. Yes - they are a little loud. But the food is all really good and consistently quality. Great drinks. Mac 'n Cheese is perfection. Salads, soups, and desserts great too. Try the Sticky Toffee Pudding.

This chain of restaurants in NYC offers consistently good food in a nice ambiance. This place is oftrn full, a bit crammed and loud. Food is good, my fish was a bit on the well done side. Service was nice but a bit sketchy, ie you can see they are super busy and not enough time for every patron. Overall... More

Went with some friends on a Saturday night. Had reservations so we got right in. Was impressed with the overall size and the ease in which we could move around. The menu had quite a bit of variety, but generally seemed to be over priced. I ended up ordering the burger royale. It was good, not great.

Thank Julie G

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
