We were planning to have dinner at one of the good neighborhood restaurants, Lex, but could not get a table. So, we went across the street to Peri Ela. We had walked by the Peri Ela on many occasions and knew that it was Mediterranean cuisine. It was packed but we were able to sit at the bar. We ordered... More

This is a restaurant where you can try a range of Turkish specialties. Nice cosy atmosphere - brown wooden panels, small tables, a bar with a brick wall. Excellent food. We tried the shepherd´s salad with feta cheese, a cheese plate, mixed grill, chicken kebab and zucchini pancakes. All very tasty. Good personal service.

Little room, tables are very close to each other. Yet cosy. simple but honest and tasty grill dishes. Vegetarian selection limited and the dish was not very convincing,

This Upper East Side restaurant offers very good well prepared Turkish dishes. The service is very friendly and also efficient. The space is simple and attractive. Only the noise level is disturbing whenever most of the tables are occupied.

So glad we stopped. Delicious, healthy and reasonably priced Turkish food in a cozy setting with very friendly service on the Upper East Side. Can't wait to come back for dinner! Photo is Turkish mixed vegetables with yogurt sauce:

Fresh, well-prepared, good-quality food. It's plain- someimes to a fault- but always healthy and authentic..I'd be glad to see some more adventurous dishes. It can be noisy when crowded at dinner, and it's surprisingly pricey.

A restaurant that I never favored, but I gave it another chance because of its convenient location. Glad I did! Our foursome left very happy thanks to several things. It was quiet, it was pleasant, and everyone was extremely happy with their appetizers and entrees. Three of us ordered the shrimp kebabs and raved. I ordered my usual Mixed Grill... More

We ate here because it is very near the 92 Street Y where Jazz in July is presently being presented. A small, modest place that filled up with other jazz lovers, it offers very good Turkish food and pleasant service. The bar makes good cocktails as well. I was thrilled to find they offer manti, beef dumplings in yogurt sauce,... More

After enjoying lunch at Beyoglu a day earlier we ventured uptown in search of another Turkish restaurant. Peri Ela was not a disappointment. Located not far away from Cooper Hewit Museum, certainly worth visiting, after renovation, we ended up in this pleasant, small restaurant. Borek and eggplants appetizers were superb, beef dumplings so, so and lamb kebab satisfactory. Wine list... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
