I was surprised by all the hype about this place. I think that the gelato wasn't that great. I ordered the affogato, and their coffee was horrible. Bitter, burnt, over-roasted, that when poured over the gelato, it just ruined the whole thing. Tried a couple other flavors, and it was just ok. Don't know if they were having an off... More

All of their products are made on premises and the flavors I had were delightful. Also some stranger flavors- rhubarb, wasabi- that people really seemed to enjoy. Open late.

Thoroughly enjoyed the gelato at Il Laboratorio del Gelato! They have a huge selection of flavors - many quite unique that you'd be hard pressed to find elsewhere. I loved the malt and the marshmallow flavors. So creamy and delicious. The ordering process was a bit chaotic but all was forgiven with our first taste.

So many choices - some traditional flavors and other more wild varieties (broccoli, anyone?). The shop is big and open so you can see where they make it all. It truly looks more like a lab than a gelato shop, but that's what makes it awesome. I think you get a good sized portion for what you pay. I myself... More

You will eat your big sandwich on Katz then move over to this place to eat ice cream. It is a nice clean place with great ice cream.

Soooo many unique flavors to choose from. A little disorganized but worth waiting to try the delicious gelato. I recommend the fresh mint paired with some other flavor. Brown sugar, fig, and so many other flavors you don't see elsewhere. You can special order flavors that aren't being served that day.

Not many places you can buy broccoli ice cream. There are lots of unusual flavours most people while we were there ordered salted caramel. It was outstanding.

Every flavor here is delicious. My husband loves the rum raisin, Turkish fig and various chocolate flavors but for me the cucumber gelato is a revelation. Go.

A must-try if you're in the area. Approx 50 flavours available which rotate daily. Service is quick and friendly, they take most major cards, and prices are reasonable. High-quality and delicious treat!

This "gelateria" is excellent and with spacious room to hang out, if it is too cold or too hot outside. I can compare it to my recollection of the two best Ice Cream Parlors from the time I used to live in Rome. It has a variety of flavors all to die for and the price is just right.Enjoy it!

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighbourhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.
