Make a reservation in advance. Two venues, 3 item pre-fixe or a la carte. Small tasy portions and a very impressive wine list $$$. Such a civlized treat while museuming.

Excellent lunch (mushroom en croute), excellent service, overpriced wine list, but their no-tipping policy keeps the cost of a meal (at least lunch) within reason for a memorable stop.

Great lunch as always! They had a little trouble accommodating my gluten allergy, but I managed to fine several tasty dishes. The server was excellent (and since the Modern has implemented a "no tipping" policy that says a lot!). My foie gras appetizer was so generous, I was not sure I could finish it. The amuse bouche (pea soup with... More

An oasis of fine dining awaits at the Modern in their formal dining room (though the bar is no slouch either and offers more modest alternative). We had the three course fixed menu, appetizer, main course and dessert - this was the minimum required. There was also a six course fixed menu. The chef sent out a cold pea soup... More

No question why they’ve earned two Michelin Stars. Over the years, there have only been three other occasions when I’ve dined somewhere that is truly beyond written description. My recent lunch at The Modern now stands as the fourth such occasion. In the words of Wayne Campbell (Wayne’s World), “I’m not worthy” to review this restaurant. Beyond amazing, start to... More

I was not aware of this restaurant and was introduced by a dear friend. Grateful for the introduction. The wine list is extensive and excellent. I had a light dinner of Lobster Risotto which was truly amazing. So many flavors at first bite and plenty of lobster too. I look forward to a return trip.

We enjoy dining out. We appreciate great food, love great service, and having a nice view to boot is a plus. As we planned meals in NYC, we used the Michelin Guide as a resource (sorry, TripAdvisor) and chose starred restaurants. We knew that we were visiting MOMA, so it was with great surprise and pleasure that we discovered that... More

I travel a lot for business. Every week I'm in a new city and many times I take out customers to restaurants. The problem is that as a strict Whole Foods vegan I have a hard time ordering off of restaurant menus and many times they cannot accommodate me. Steve, our waiter, made me feel completely at ease. He was... More

I was visiting New York by myself and booked a table for 1 at the Modern. I was seated at the bar initially for a pre-lunch drink. The barman was attentive and friendly. All the staff were happy, knowledgeable and when asked, genuinely seemed to like working in the restaurant. The food was imaginative and delicious. If I have any... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
