Well, for a dive bar/ restaurant, the first thing we were told was that there's no whiskey, not a lot of the beers on the menu, no sparkling wines and limited cocktails. Dollar oysters were good.....the rest of the dinner was passable. I had the blackened salmon salad...the salmon tasted quick fried with no real seasoning and the salad greens... More

Sometimes you just want to go to a dive bar. And in this neighborhood Live Bait fits the bill. Good oysters, pretty capably shucked, good burgers and a nice choice of draft beer reasonably priced. And a nice view of the Empire State Building from the front door.

Spacious dive bar with good music and resonantly priced food and drinks. However the waitress was terrible, angry and abrupt. Lady with the short blonde hair, she made us all feel uncomfortable. Would avoid this place as a result.

My husband and I went here for dinner on a whim, on our first night in NYC. We both had burgers and drinks and loved the place. Great staff, friendly atmosphere and very reasonably priced food which was absolutely delicious. Would definitely recommend it, felt like a hidden gem of a place.

Authentic bayou hike in the wall with wonderful vibe. Loud but not too. Oyster roll, chicken sliders and eggplant sticks were great. Jambalaya was tasty and generous. Beer selection just right and wines available. Children friendly. Have high chairs. A good nite out.

Stunning atmosphere. Great vibe. One place in New York, where you can buy a sensibly priced, but a decent quality bottle of wine. I had an oyster in a shot of vodka and salsa. Amazing and delicious. My husband ate shrimp with creamy grits. The absolute best. This is a gastronomic atmospheric must!

Frequent this place whenever I'm in New York ... cozy unpretentious place with a solid Cajun seafood menu. I'm partial to the oysters and fired pickles to start ... also recommend the catfish and gumbo with a side of collard greens. The front bar area is often lively and I've always been very happy with the bartender. It has the... More

I liked the food. Service was extremely slow I thought, although I was not in a hurry. Dive bar look, but I was fine with that.

We did not make any reservation and had no problem getting a table. The front part of GE restaurant is the far area which was crowded. The dining area was not created. Very casual ambience. Service was good. Good menu. Reasonable pricing. Food was good with decent portions.

We stopped in mid-afternoon on Saturday and sat at the bar. Loved the place, Had great Bloody Mary's - our bartender's great grandmother's recipe. Loved the tater tots topped with bacon and a side of pimento cheese. Also fell in crazy about the deviled eggs with chives and salmon caviar. Would have been happy to visit Live Bait every day.

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighbourhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets- much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighbourhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being the home of a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
