Fun place in the city for breakfast or lunch. Great variety to choose from. I would recommend this to all.

We were here for lunch and all four of us were surprised by the variety of meals that we could order. The burger was pretty good, the salad huge and delicious and the french toast sweet and fluffy. This is a nice, convenient place to go if you are looking for a fast, decent lunch. I can imagine the diner... More

If you like huge portions, a noisy atmosphere and busy service then this is the place for you. If you care for slightly more finesse in your food, then perhaps you would be better off somewhere else. It's fine for a quick lunch and a lot better than other diners we visited but I don't think we would seek it... More

I've been eating here for years since i live on the upper East Side of Manhattan. But like everything in life if you don't take care of things you begin to see a decline. Thats exactly whats happened to this establishment. The place is dirty and can use a facelift , the bathrooms are dirty and not properly maintained so... More

Nothing fancy here but good, solid food. Big portions, fast service and an old time vibe. Soups and salads are particularly good and clearly home made. Breakfast is good as well and although I don't eat them, the pancakes look awesome. Be prepared to pay cash as credit cards are a no no here. Definitely worth a visit!

Fourth time in NYC visiting friends and every time EJ´s become our most visited place even though there are closer places to our hotel. And again we were not disappointed. We will be regular guest even next time in New York. Their flap jacks with, strawberries, banana and blueberry jam is great. And their french toast! Friendly service. Love the... More

Had been more than satisfied with the place on a number of occasions. I returned for the 3rd time in a week as I had mostly been happy previously. This is where it all went wrong for Ej's. After a sub standard cheeseburger with a beef patty as thick as a loaf of bread and fries that resembled soggy cigarette... More

This iconic Upper East Side diner was open until 4 o'clock in the afternoon on Thanksgiving Day and the place was jammed at noon. Many servers, everyone very pleasant and very helpful. Everything is in plain sight from the main dining room; the side dining room on the street side was a bit more quiet. My Ranchos huevos had perfectly... More

And there's reasons for why that's my hangout spot. They have an amazing selection of milkshakes, the staff are friendly and you also gotta try the macaroni and cheese! Note that the mac and cheese is more of an appetizer than a main meal.Highly recommended.

It has been many, many years since I was last at this luncheonette. I remembered when it opened. I was in the neighborhood today and stopped in for a late breakfast. Good, quality food and friendly staff in an environment where you don't feel rushed. So happy it hasn't lost anything over the decades.

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
