This small eatery is a must. Yes, small, like only seven seats. But if you are a fish and chips person, do go in and eat. It's not a big menu. Other than fish and chips, they have shrimp, scallops, beets and a few other selections. Everything is deep fried to perfection. The fish is moist and flaky but not... More

This is a very small place with about 9 total places to sit, however it's worth it. The fish is absolutely delicious and the special tartar sauce is amazing! This is walking distance to Stonewall Inn also which is also a plus.

Located in the heart of Greenwich Village, a couple blocks from the 14th Street 8th Avenue subway, this is the place for fish and chips! Also, try out their eating contest (As much as I would love to, I know I won't be successful.)

It's a tiny little hole in the wall, but the fish and chips were excellent. I loved that you could chose from a variety of fish- we chose the haddock and were delighted with our selection. Thankfully, we shared the crispy, fresh fries- the portion was huge!

Considering there aren't that many good options for fish and chips, this hits the spot. It's tiny, but that adds to the charm!

I was seeking this restaurant out due to the great reviews. While it was good and the name was entertaining, it didn't strike me as something extra special. It is very small with just 6 stools, the food tastes like you would expect- mushy peas taste just like peas, battered beets are the same. The haddock was very good. The... More

Ate here with friends, it's takeaway or small dining space. Complete menu including pie, cod is the same price as haddock when we were here. You get a counter to collect your food and there are benches outside for 3-4 ppl to sit over their fish

I eat here everytime I am in New York for work. I am originally from England and the food here is the most authentic I have had anywhere else in the world. The battered sausage is perfect, the pickled onions are amazing and the chips.....

We were recommended to try this place when a bar man heard our accent, so glad we did! The fish is white, the batter crispy & they serve real chips, not frozen. They have salt & vinegar on the tables & you can even get a beer.

I was first made aware of A Salt and Battery after seeing a YouTube video of Randy Santel (Atlas) smashing their Fish & Chips Challenge record and wanted to visit ever since. As a former resident of an English Seaside town, this great little place didn't disappoint with excellent freshly cooked fish, chips (not fries, actual chips) and friendly service.... More

Staying in West Village

Neighbourhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
