A cramped, bustling, noisy place on the memorable location of first and first. But classic Italian food, delicious and lots of it (2 of us took doggie bags home) and very attentive, friendly service. Definitely one to put on your list!

Last minute decision to go here based on recommendation from our hotel concierge. Very happy we listened to him. Lil' Frankies is a tiny, intimate bustling restaurant with great service and fab atmosphere. If you like Italian this place is a must go. The pizza was proper authentic with just the right amount of yummy tomato sauce. But the homemade... More

My girls took me here for my birthday. Amazing is all I can say! Food was out of this world. We started with bread with virgin olive oil with real olives for dipping and fried calamari. My first time eating calamari and I thought it was delicious! So many things on the menu to choose from. I love pizza and... More

Great pizza and pasta but surely not as good as in Italy. Recommend any of their pizza and the penne al pomodoro with stratiatella

Terrific authentic Italian (used to live in Milan) some of the best I've had outside Italy. Casual atmosphere, only negative was music was a bit loud for large table conversation.

As someone who lived in Italy, it is often hard to find authentic Italian food even in NYC. However, this restaurant is perhaps the closest I've come to real Italian. The staff was extremely friendly and the services was fast and efficient. The space can be a bit crowded at times, but that's New York! We didn't have to wait... More

This restaurant has maybe the best chicken Parmesan I've had in the city, and all the pastas are great as well. The seafood is solid and the burrata is top notch as well. They have massive portions and a fun, busy vibe so it's very popular with the young residents of the neighborhood. If you want a not too fancy,... More

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
