I've been a customer of Mitali for basically my entire life - my parents introduced me at the very young age of 5, and I've been in love ever since. While aesthetically the restaurant is in dire need of a makeover, the food is consistently delicious. The chicken tikka musalam is incomparable (none of that tomato based ketchupy crap!!) -... More

My uncle brought me here for the second time. I love it. The staff is super kind and attentive. The menu is slightly overwhelming but delicious. We had the shrimp with poori and two chicken dishes. The dishes didn't disappoint. And we had the mango ice cream. This place is great.

On a late Saturday night we walked the length of this block on 6th St which is lined with Indian restos. Mitali was pretty jammed (a good sign) but we were seated promptly. We ate like kings and loved every dish. Just before we ordered, a patron walking by our table leaned over and said, "order the butter chicken, it's... More

I met my friend there for dinner, The food was ok, nothing special but the staff was pleasant and attentive. This is the second Indian restaurant in NY I tried and must say that Indian restaurants in London are much better. My friend told me that this restaurant used to be better.

We are foodies with eclectic tastes and have been enjoying a broad selection of cheap and pricey restaurants in NYC since the 70's. 6th St in the East Village has a row of inexpensive Indian restaurants, and we have tried them all. Mitali is not only our favorite, but we believe serves better Indian cuisine that any other we have... More

The food overall was good. But, the service was just downright bad. Upon entering, the host wanted to put us in the back of the restaurant at a table barely big enough for two. We asked to be reseated, twice. The restaurant was not full. Eventually we were seated where we asked to be initially. Then, I asked for water... More

Two small appetizers, chicken curry with huge portion of rice and nan, ended with mango ice-cream, all these were only cost 12 dollars(service included). Chicken curry was so awesome, rice and was perfectly cook, samosa was ok, and mango ice-cream was amazing. Highly recommended for those who are tired of regular food in tourist area, Mitali is definitely great alternatives.

Decent low-priced Indian food. Not byob, like the other Indian restaurants on the block. A little more upscale.

The East Village has gone from dangerous to trendy over the years and there are now many excellent restaurants in the neighborhood. Although this block of beautiful old brownstones on E. 6th St. is no longer solidly Indian, there are still a number of Indian restaurants vying for your business and Mitali East is one of the best. I love... More

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
