We had a group of seven for a Sunday brunch that we only planned on Saturday evening. We searched on OpenTable looking for a relatively highly rated restaurant on the Upper East Side that had moderate prices. There were not many openings for a group of 7 at 11 AM, but with a four star rating and two dollar sign... More

Another UES institution that is more interested in revenue than customer service. Our waiter could not handle a simple two drink order, bringing red wine instead of white and the wrong beer. The sushi special advertised outside excludes the higher end choices and solicits cash instead of credit, the sushi itself mediocre. Burger accompaniments were meagre and limp, and, at... More

We go here all of the time. The UES of NYC doesn't have a ton of great dining options. We love their happy hour specials and the fact that they offer a wide array of food. Great sushi, great burgers, and everything else is pretty delicious too. No fine dining. But you will have a good experience and your wallet... More

Great food. Steak sandwich - medium rare with grilled onions and french fries crispy A+. Cheeseburger with fries. Food was over all very good. Staff friendly and pleasant. Place was a little on the dark side, but nice, kinda of kool decor.

Consistently good. My friend adores the eel sushi and I liked the broiled lobster. Thelatter was only 1 1/4 lb which doesn't give much food but it was tasty. Came away a liitle hungry. But great service and happy hour wine is always nice

A fake 50's bar with food that I find convincing. Bar food is pretty good and the cocktails are fine and they will let you sit in a booth for hours without bothering you. Also quiet enough to talk.

The food is simple but good and a lot of variety to please different tastes. It is a nice place for a conversation. However, on repeated occasions I have found the bathrooms to be very dirty.

Had lunch with a friend. It was a convenient location. The restaurant was a bit worn and could use some updating and the bathroom was in need of a serious update. I had a chopped salad. I remember enjoying it, but can't tell u much more than that.

My wife and I ate here after hearing some very bad news in our life and Stacy was a great server. We were just glad there were no problems and she was very nice> Thanks Stacy!

This is one of my favorite places to go to for dinner. I usually ask for a table at the cafe (which is on the side, and the music/noise there is less loud, so one can actually converse, not to mention that the tables there have table clothes, which is a big plus for me). The menu offers American, Italian,... More

Hi-Life Restaurant & Lounge is one of the Upper Eastside’s most popular and longstanding neighborhood restaurants (est. 1993). Hi-Life's 1930's decor is the backdrop for restaurant & lounge classics like flame-grilled steaks and hamburgers, broiled and seared fresh fish specials, bountiful "Big Bowls" of pasta and entree salads, and last but not least a Sushi/Raw bar. (Hi-Life was the first NYC restaurant to install a traditional sushi bar in a non-Japanese restaurant setting in 1993. Expertly prepared sushi & sashimi at Hi-Life is a natural extension of the classic Raw Bar one might expect in our 1930's environment.)

Hi-Life also serves a "traditional Eastside brunch" that features fresh squeezed juices, complimentary blueberry muffins & cinnamon toast as well as a 2.95 brunch cocktail deal.

In the warmer months Hi-Life opens all the French doors along Second Avenue to provide an inviting "cafe society" experience.

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
