Whist on holiday in NYC we happened to watch a Tv show featuring best burger places in the US. and this restaurant was voted as the best place to have a burger. It is not a burger place, it's more of an elegant old fashioned steakhouse. We tried the love burger as recommended on the TV show.....and we weren't disappointed... More

The oldest steakhouse still operating in New York. Everything is ala carte. Shared a dinner for 2 and it was light on the sides, but very generous with the melt in your mouth filets. Glad we shared a salad also. It did get a little loud for a good conversation so we did not linger for long. Parking in the... More

Nice steakhouse with good steaks. The kids enjoyed the sides of Mac and cheese. The ambiance and the service was also very good.

...or you won't get a table. 7pm on a Saturday night and it was jam packed. Went straight for the mains and it was all delicious. Steak is what it's about, must have bacon as one of the sides, and you will leave very happy you came. Service was excellent as well.

A group of eight friends gathered at Old Homestead for an early dinner. We had a wide variety of entrees, soup, salads and desserts. Everything was well presented and the service was attentive without being fussy. The porterhouse for two was huge. The filet for two was really a chateaubriand....beautiful. Good onion soup. Great cheesecake. One of the friends had... More

Red leather upholstery, dimly lit, and professional, career waitstaff. I wasn't old enough to remember restaurants in the 70's, but I imagine this place hasn't changed much since then (in a good way). The food, in a word, wow! I rarely eat red meat, but when in Rome... Had the filet, mashed potatoes and spinach. Quite possibly the best steak... More

Last minute idea, called 15 minutes before we arrived, Saturday at 6:30PM I wasn't dressed for a nice dinner out, jeans and a plaid shirt. Although the clothes weren't fancy they were clean. We were seated in the rear of the restaurant and that was fine with me. I sensed that the waiter was not thrilled with having us there.... More

Visited while on holiday in NYC We'd looked at the reviews and based on this decided to try it. We had the porterhouse steak for 2 and sides which was just ok, not the best I've ever had but not the worst. Overpriced and preferred Keen's which I've been to previously.

I had a wonderful business dinner at the Old Homestead in NYC. Right across from the Chelsea Market. I had a great bone in rib eye with mashed potatoes. The steak was roughly 18 ounces and medium rare. What a perfect piece of meat! Juiced and tender beef. Deep fried string onions on top. Just the right amount of meat... More

Smart and not cheap, this place is a tradition and I can honestly say I had the best burger ever! Friendly staff and lovely old style wooden panels makes this place NY legend.
