Don't go here. The atmosphere is low class grunge. Food is mediocre. Service was terrible. Pick any other good steakhouse in NYC and go there - it will be much better than this awful place.

OK, a mixed review: The Old Homestead Steakhouse has shrunk. The area to the right as you walk in has been sold and is now a bakery. There is still upstairs, but that wasn't open at 5:30. The clientele were not the most refined either....More

The Old Homestead has gone through many things in the last years. Some 6/8 years ago it was a forgotten, kind of out of fashion traditional steakhouse, yet food was very good. Now the meatpacking district has caught up with it, and at the same...More

We think that this Restaurant has become famous for the steak, that is really really soft and delicious (we took a fillet for two - inadequate for two - for 109$). But we also think that trying to overdo never pay: they try (with low...More

I have gone there for lunch and they have two specials on the lunch menu. One is a filet mignon sandwich and I don't recall the second, sorry. But I had the filet mignon sandwich and it was excellent.

Not that I could see .. I'd err on the side of smarter casual. Mix of suits from offices and smart jeans/shirts. Not sure I'd go in with beach shorts & a shabby t-shirt ..
