This is a great place for adults who would like a chance to have a conversation. The high-ceilinged room, widely-spaced tables, carpets and drapes keep sound to a quiet hum. The food was excellent, especially for fans of foie gras, which turned up in several dishes. We appreciated the emphasis seasonal ingredients, like a nettle soup with mint-pea ravioli. Service... This is one of the most beautiful dining rooms n NYC - Quiet and elegant. Lunch is a bargain. Its fault is that in three years and 10 plus visits the menu has not changed. This is always a bad sign for a restaurant. There needs to be daily specials so that you know that someone is alive in the... More

We enjoyed a superb lunch in this charming restaurant. The prix fixe menu is good value for money, and I can recommend the wild sea trout starter and the scallops with foie gras. But as ever, the star of the show for me is the wine on offer and the maitre sommelier, Roger who is always keen to talk wine.... More

One of the best value lunches (on a Saturday) can be had at Tocqueville. My wife and I ate here for our wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. The soup was outstanding. The service and remaining courses were quintessentially French, with the fish course big and flakey in a superb sauce. If you like Bouley or Jean Georges give... More

Visited this restaurant for a prix fixe Christmas dinner. When you walk up to the restaurant it gives you the illusion that it is small but when inside the space opens up and has two floors. Very elegant venue. We sat upstairs and overlooked the first floor. The food was very good and the service was impeccable. I would dine... More

Probably overbooked for a holiday dinner this unassuming restaurant had some surprises. The service was the worst part as we often sat with dirty dishes and no wine service. We dined over 3 hours for a fixed three course meal. On the positive, we had time to digest. On the negative we often sat with "no wine and dirty dishes".... More

Superb 7-course tasting menu plus wine pairings. The chef was able to accommodate one of us disliking seafood by providing different dishes, and we even got different wines at times - complete with refills. Portions were generous - perhaps a little over-generous. The only disappointment was the slightly slow service to start with, but once that was over, we were... More

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighbourhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets- much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighbourhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being the home of a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
