Decided to go here for fiancée’s birthday dinner. Lovely ambiance, mellow music – both vocal and instrumental; piano, clarinet and viola. Excellent service. We ordered - French onion soup which had very tasty cheese, not rubbery but actually eatable! Escargot were ok ok. Fried oysters...More

A great location for theater goers. Lovely atmosphere with talented piano player extraordinaire. Between the 4 of us we had 2 duck entrees and 2 bass specials . Both were wonderful but the duck was to for for. Apple tart dessert was lovely. Highly recommend.

I would definitely consider this an upscale place, great for a birthday dinner. And certainly, wait for the theater crowds to leave.

The last of its kind near 42nd Street, Chez Josephine is a neighborhood gem founded in 1986 by Jean-Claude Baker as a tribute to legendary Josephine Baker. This Parisian bistro offers live piano music and a tantalizing menu in an intimate setting of red velvet walls, a cavalcade of chandeliers and a blue-tin ceiling. Guests receive a warm welcoming and are treated as family whether coming before a show, after the show, for a leisurely dinner in-between, or a drink at the zinc bar.
