Super delicious food. Very authentic Venezuelan food. They don't take reservations. Don't go with a big party, there simply isn't space. I love that all menu options can be served with tofu instead of meat.

The fire virtually destroyed the building. Nobody was harmed, and the building didn't sustain structural damage, but damage to the restaurant itself is extensive. The owner is quoted as saying the investigation is still underway, but it's believed the blaze began in either the restaurant's kitchen or the building's basement. Besides fire and smoke damage, Araujo says they're also looking... More

I frequently visit the place and, for a Venezuelan, any good arepa, fried plantains, and a good beer always sounds great. But in my last three visits, I noticed the arepas were not fresh and rather reheated which makes no sense for a place that is always packed and hence has lots of food turn around. I loved the place... More

Average service - not overly friendly. There was a kind of smell in the place which we couldn't identify. The tequenos were pretty good but a bit too oily. The arepas too were ok but not sure if made with harina PAN. Had a different taste to them. Still, at least it's cheap. Go if you want a taste of... More

We came here for lunch and it was quite quiet which suited us perfectly. The food is outstanding: my sister had The La Surena arepa with grilled chicken, Venezuelan sausage and avocado plus a gazpacho soup ($9.75 - a lunch deal for any arepa with either a soup or a salad). I had the Pabellon Criollo ($18) - delicious shredded... More

Wow!! Truly incredibly food at this spot. It's a small but cozy restaurant in the Williamsburg area of Brooklyn. For appetizers, we had the ceviche, yoyos, and croquetas. Far and away, the yoyos were the star here. These are plantains with cheese deep fried in a cinnamon batter. It comes with some maple syrup type sauce. It reminded me of... More

This is literally a hole in the wall but the food and ambiance are excellent. The place was full so after a short wait we were sit at the bar where we got personalize attention and a direct view of the kitchen that was very clean and well organized. We started with the Tostones Mocheros and the Chips followed some... More

This is a place to go when it is all about he food! A hole-in-the-wall gem! Everything was delicious - De Pabellon and Los Muchachos were my favourite. When you go to New York City, be sure to visit this restaurant - it is truly one of a kind!

Nice place with good food and affordable price. I ordered pabellon criollo (black beans, pulled meat, white rice, plantains) that was the right size and delicious, and in a nice presentation. The cocada (a refreshing coconut beverage prepared with crushed ice, milk and sugar) was extraordinary. The soup that my wife ordered was great and also the arepas. I would... More

A little off the beaten path in the East Village this little place is very charming, offers exceptional service and terrific food. It's about a 15 minute walk from Washington Square and about the same from the heart of Soho. Seating is limited so,it's best to make a reservation if you plan to go at peak lunch time. The place... Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
